  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Moves to injured reserve

The Cowboys placed Prescott (hamstring) on injured reserve Monday. This move is merely procedural for Prescott, who underwent surgery to address the partial avulsion of his right hamstring last Wednesday following the injury he suffered Week 9 in Atlanta. While Prescott's recovery process is expected to take upwards of three months, Dallas will turn to Cooper Rush under center for the time being. In addition to Rush, the Cowboys also have 2021 first-round pick Trey Lance on the active roster.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Gets surgery Wednesday

Prescott underwent surgery Wednesday to address the partial avulsion of his right hamstring, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Prescott will likely need three months to fully recover from surgery, which means that he should be ready for some, if not all, of the offseason program. With his 2024 season over, he'll finish with 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 64.7 percent passing and 13 carries for 54 yards and one touchdown in eight appearances. Cooper Rush will continue to direct the Cowboys offense, but the potential exists for Trey Lance to see time under center or even start at some point over the final eight contests of the regular season.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Season-ending surgery confirmed

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that Prescott will undergo season-ending surgery in New York on Wednesday to address a partial avulsion of his right hamstring, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. After seeking one final medical opinion on his hamstring Monday, Prescott has elected to proceed with surgery rather than treating the injury through rest and rehab. According to Jones, Prescott's long-term prognosis is "wonderful," and while the quarterback will miss the remainder of the season, he should be ready to go for training camp, if he isn't fully cleared for OTAs. Cooper Rush started under center in Sunday's loss to the Eagles and will again direct the offense in Week 11 against the Texans, though it wouldn't be surprising if the Cowboys also gave an extended look to Trey Lance at some point. Prescott will conclude his ninth NFL campaign with a 64.7 percent completion rate on 286 pass attempts for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions to go with 54 yards and a touchdown on 13 rushing attempts over his eight appearances.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: One more meeting with doctor on tap

Prescott, who has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Eagles, will meet with another specialist Monday before a decision is made on whether he'll undergo season-ending surgery to address a partial avulsion of his right hamstring, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Prescott has already sought several medical opinions on his injury, with all having reportedly recommended surgery. He'll meet with one final medical expert Monday, but if the doctor agrees with the previous assessments of his injury, Prescott will undergo surgery Wednesday, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. An official recovery timeline wouldn't be provided until surgery is completed, but a procedure of this sort typically entails about a four-month recovery period. Cooper Rush will take over as the Cowboys' starting quarterback in Week 10, and the Cowboys could also deploy certain packages that take advantage of backup Trey Lance's rushing ability.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Season-ending surgery likely on tap

Prescott is expected to undergo season-ending surgery in the near future to repair the partial avulsion to his right hamstring, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. A recovery timeline for the procedure would range from 4-to-5 months, meaning the quarterback would miss the rest of the season, and his availability for the start of OTAs could also be affected. The Cowboys didn't place Prescott on injured reserve Saturday, but the team could be saving the additional roster spot for another time. Cooper Rush will take over as the team's immediate starter Sunday versus the Eagles, but it's possible Trey Lance will be worked into the mix if the Cowboys fall out of playoff contention.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: IR stint likely

Executive vice president Stephen Jones said Friday on 105.3 The Fan Dallas that the Cowboys likely will place Prescott (hamstring) on injured reserve, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. An IR stint for Prescott has been bandied about since Tuesday and the ensuing diagnosis of a partial avulsion of his right hamstring became known one day later. Earlier Friday, team owner Jerry Jones expressed uncertainty on 105.3 The Fan Dallas about Prescott going on the reserve list, stating, "He doesn't want surgery. He wants to be on the field and go for it. We'll see how it goes here." But Stephen Jones was more forthright Friday afternoon. "I think it's probably no way he can be back in the four-week timeframe, so we'll put him over there, and we'll have that roster spot to use in terms of the next four weeks and go from there." While the move isn't official yet, it'll need to be by 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday in order to clear a roster spot ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles. As long as Prescott is sidelined, Cooper Rush will start Week 10 and beyond, with Trey Lance backing him up and perhaps even getting a chance to start himself at some point.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Unsure about injured reserve

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday that he's still not sure if Prescott (hamstring) will be placed on injured reserve, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. "[Prescott] doesn't want surgery," Jone said. "He wants to be on the field and go for it. We'll just see how it goes here." Recent reports suggest Prescott likely will miss at least 4-to-6 weeks, with a partial avulsion of his right hamstring potentially requiring season-ending surgery. Jones is suggesting that Prescott hopes to return before the four-week mark, but it's unclear if the goal is realistic or if he'd be able to play at anything close to his usual level of performance. Fantasy managers should brace for the possibility of Prescott missing the rest of the season and giving way to backup QB Cooper Rush, with some chance of third-stringer Trey Lance eventually making starts.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Out 4-to-6 weeks at least

Prescott sustained a partial avulsion of his right hamstring in Sunday's loss to Atlanta, and his best-case recovery timetable is 4-to-6 weeks, Jane Slater of NFL Network reports. Prescott is expected to be placed on injured reserve as a result, but the Cowboys have yet to make such a transaction as they seek varying opinions on how to proceed with his rehab. Rest and icing the region are the likely routes to take, but there's also a possibility that he'll require surgery, depending on the grade of the injury. Cooper Rush will step in for Prescott as Dallas' starter for as long as the latter is sidelined, while Trey Lance will be active on game days as the backup quarterback.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Likely to go on IR

Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Prescott (hamstring) will miss "an extended period of time" and is likely to be placed on injured reserve, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Head coach Mike McCarthy had already announced Monday that Prescott would miss the Cowboys' Week 10 game against the Eagles due to the hamstring injury he suffered in the Week 9 loss to the Falcons, but Jones' comments imply that the franchise quarterback will miss at least three more contests beyond that. Cooper Rush will step in as the Cowboys' new starting quarterback beginning this Sunday, while Trey Lance will move into the backup role. While Jones didn't offer up a clear recovery timeline for Prescott, the 3-5 Cowboys could elect to hold the 31-year-old quarterback out beyond four games if the team finds itself out of playoff contention and begins to prioritize draft position in 2025.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Ruled out for Week 10

Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Prescott (hamstring) will not play Week 10 against the Eagles next Sunday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. It had already been reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that Prescott is looking at a multi-week absence, so this comes as no surprise. The exact timeline of Prescott's recovery remains unclear, and a trip to injured reserve is on the table of possibilities. Cooper Rush will make the start versus Philadelphia. Trey Lance figures to be Rush's backup.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Scheduled for MRI

Prescott is slated to undergo an MRI on the hamstring he injured during Sunday's 27-21 loss to the Falcons, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. Per Archer, Prescott said afterward that he "felt something he never felt before" in his hamstring prior to his exit from the contest. While the quarterback noted that he's a quick healer and that it will take "a lot" for him to "not to be out there," his status is nonetheless worth tracking closely as next Sunday's game against the Eagles approaches. If Prescott is unavailable, Cooper Rush would likely be in line to draw the Week 10 start in his place.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Two TDs in failed comeback bid

Prescott completed 25 of 38 passes for 243 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the 49ers. He also rushed once for minus-1 yard. Prescott's first-half numbers weren't pretty (110 passing yards and an interception), but the Cowboys nonetheless took a 10-6 lead into the locker room. San Francisco's offense woke up in the third quarter while Dallas' remained dormant, as the 49ers scored 21 unanswered third-quarter points while Prescott threw for only six yards and his second interception of the night. He finally heated up in the fourth quarter with touchdown passes of seven and 20 yards to CeeDee Lamb before logging four consecutive incompletions on Dallas' final possession. After throwing a league-high 36 touchdowns compared to nine interceptions last season, Prescott has a pedestrian 10:8 TD:INT heading into a Week 9 road game against the Falcons.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Pulled late in blowout loss

Prescott completed 17 of 33 passes for 178 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 47-9 loss to the Lions. He added one rush for one yard. Prescott got off to a decent start, leading the Cowboys to a nine-play, 54-yard drive that resulted in a field goal on the team's opening possession. He went 4-for-6 for 46 yards -- and also had a pick called back for defensive holding -- but that was the highlight of his game. From there, he completed only 13 of 27 passes while averaging 4.9 yards per attempt with a pair of interceptions that led directly to 10 points for the Lions. Given the state of the game, Prescott sat most of the fourth quarter and failed to throw a touchdown for the first time this season. The Cowboys will get a well-timed bye in Week 7.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: QBs to Start

I didn't expect Prescott to play well in Week 5 at Pittsburgh, but he managed to score 20.4 Fantasy points despite three turnovers. He's now scored at least 20 Fantasy points in three games in a row, including two outings with at least 350 passing yards. He has the chance for another solid performance in Week 6 against the Lions, who have allowed two of four quarterbacks to score at least 20.8 Fantasy points. This game has the highest projected total of the week at 52.5 points, and Prescott has top-five upside in this matchup at home.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: QBs to Sit

Prescott has looked more like himself the past two games against the Ravens and Giants, and he's averaging 27.3 Fantasy points over that span. Prior to that in matchups against Cleveland and New Orleans, Prescott averaged 14.2 Fantasy points in those outings. This week, I expect Prescott to be closer to that level of production. No quarterback has scored more than 19 Fantasy points against the Steelers this season. And Prescott is averaging 19.2 Fantasy points per game in his past five outings on the road.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: QBs to Start

Prescott just had his best game of the season in Week 3 against Baltimore with 33.9 Fantasy points, and hopefully that's a sign of things to come. He should stay hot in Week 4 at the Giants, and he has a great history in this NFC East rivalry. In his past five games against the Giants, Prescott is averaging 265.4 passing yards with 11 total touchdowns and four interceptions. He threw for 404 yards, four touchdowns, one interception, and a rushing touchdown, the last time he played the Giants in 2023.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Attempts 51 passes in loss

Prescott completed 28 of 51 pass attempts for 379 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 28-25 loss to Baltimore. He added two rushes for seven yards and an additional touchdown. Prescott and the Cowboys fell behind early, which led to a particularly pass-heavy offense. He was able to orchestrate several big plays, highlighted by six completions of at least 20 yards. Prescott also led a rally that came up just short, which included a one-yard rushing score as well as passing touchdowns of 15 and 16 yards. While it didn't lead to success for Dallas, Prescott had by far his best statistical performance of the year heading into a matchup Thursday against an exploitable Giants defense.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

Prescott has been a bad Fantasy quarterback so far this season, and it's tough to trust him heading into Week 3 against Baltimore. In two games against the Browns and Saints, Prescott is averaging just 14.2 Fantasy points per game, and the last time he scored fewer than 20 Fantasy points in consecutive games was Weeks 4 and 5 last season. Baltimore's defense once again has been tough on opposing quarterbacks in holding Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew to an average of 15.5 Fantasy points per game so far this year. I would only start Prescott in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Productive in Sunday's loss

Prescott completed 27 of 39 passes for 293 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions in Sunday's 44-19 loss to the Saints. He added 12 rushing yards on two carries. Despite the final score, much of Prescott's production came in the first half, as Dallas put together a couple long drives but couldn't get the ball into the end zone while the defense was getting obliterated by Alvin Kamara and the New Orleans offense. Neither interception was entirely Prescott's fault, either -- the first came when his receiver stumbled out of his break, and the second came in the fourth quarter when his team was down by three scores and the QB was in desperation mode. Prescott has only two TD passes through his first two games, and he faces a tough test in Week 3 against a frustrated Ravens squad.

  • Cowboys' Dak Prescott: QBs to Start

Prescott managed Dallas to a win last week at Cleveland with 179 passing yards and a touchdown, but he should perform better this week at home against the Saints. In his last five home games in the regular season in 2023, Prescott passed for 1,650 yards, 15 touchdowns and two interceptions, and he added 66 rushing yards and a touchdown. He scored at least 21.9 Fantasy points in each outing and averaged a whopping 33.3 points over that span. He also has scored at least 23.6 Fantasy points in four of his past five home openers, so this is a great setup for Prescott in Week 2.
