  • Texans' Gareon Conley: Still not nearing return

Coach Romeo Crennel said Monday that Conley (ankle) is still "not working" and that he doesn't "know where [a possible return] stands," Aaron Reiss of The Athletic reports. Conley has spent the entire 2020 season on IR while recovering from January ankle surgery. The fact that a timetable for his return remains uncertain as of Week 10 is enough to shed doubt on his chances of playing at all this year. Houston's secondary could certainly use Conley's help, as the unit is allowing 256 passing yards (22nd worst in the league) and 30.2 points (29th) per game.

  • Texans' Gareon Conley: Will miss at least three weeks

The Texans placed Conley (ankle) on injured reserve Monday. Conley started training camp on the PUP list since he had ankle surgery in January, but he didn't miss practice after being activated on Aug. 10. According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Conley has struggled in his return from injury and was expected to lose the starting job to Lonnie Johnson anyway, so the Texans hope a few weeks of rest can help Conley fully recover. He'll be eligible to return Oct. 4 versus the Vikings.

  • Texans' Gareon Conley: Team skipping fifth-year option

The Texans won't exercise Conley's (ankle) fifth-year option for 2021, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. General manager/head coach Bill O'Brien was non-committal when asked about the cornerback's fifth-year option earlier this offseason, but Houston formally decided on Conley's future beyond 2020 on Wednesday. After coming over in a trade from Oakland in October, the 24-year-old suited up in eight regular-season contests for Houston and posted 27 tackles and 11 pass breakups. Conley, who is recovering from a minor ankle surgery he required in January, is still expected to open the upcoming season as a starter in Houston's secondary.

  • Texans' Gareon Conley: Primed for debut with new team

Coach Bill O'Brien said Conley will play Sunday against the Raiders, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. Conley was acquired from Oakland on Monday and it's no real surprise he'll immediately play against his old team. The Texans were in dire need of help at cornerback with Bradley Roby (hamstring) potentially sidelined through the Week 10 bye while Johnathan Joseph (hamsting/shoulder) is also less than 100 percent.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Ready to roll

Conley (neck) is expected to play in Sunday's home game against the Chiefs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Conley suffered a scary neck injury during last Monday night's game, in which he had to be carted off the field. The Ohio State product was able to log limited practice time this week and appears ready for Week 2. It's unclear if he'll get the start opposite Daryl Worley, but Conley is expected to play in some fashion.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Questionable tag for Sunday

Conley (neck) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Chiefs. Coach Jon Gurden said Conley "seems to be doing okay" just a day after he was carted off the field, and defensive coordinator Paul Guenther said Thursday that Conley's "good to go." Despite the optimism from the coaching staff, Conley's officially questionable, which is backed up by his limited participation in practice all week. If he's able to play, Conley is expected to start at cornerback. The inactive report -- the final verdict -- will be released Sunday at 2:35 P.M. EDT.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Released from hospital

Conley (neck) was released from the hospital Tuesday, and head coach Jon Gruden said the reports he has "are very, very positive," Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Conley had to be carted off the field after a friendly fire shot from rookie Jonathan Abrams in Monday's game against Denver. The 24-year-old spent around 10 minutes on the ground after the hit and was able to give a thumbs up to the crowd on his way off the field. Gruden also said that he doesn't know what Conley's status will be for Sunday's matchup with Kansas City.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Snags third pick of season

Conley recorded three tackles (two solo), two passes defensed and an interception during Sunday's 35-3 loss to the Chiefs. Conley was able to return from a one-game absence for the Raiders' season finale after clearing the league's concussion protocol. He finished his second year in the league with 37 tackles (24 solo), 15 passes defensed, three interceptions and a defensive touchdown in 15 games. A much healthier 2018 campaign allowed Conley to solidify himself as a starter on the outside at cornerback, despite being benched earlier in the year. He figures to compete for a starting role again in 2019 with two seasons left on his rookie deal.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Won't play Monday

Conley (concussion) is ruled out for Monday's game against the Broncos. Conley was initially listed as questionable for Week 17, but he ultimately failed to clear the league-mandated concussion protocol in time to suit up versus Denver. As long as the former 2017 first-round pick remains sidelined, expect Nick Nelson to draw the start at right cornerback.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Cleared for Sunday's game

Conley (groin) is active for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Matt Schneidman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The groin issue rendered Conley a limited participant in practices Wednesday through Friday, but he'll be able to give it go after taking a questionable tag into the weekend. Conley, who has recorded 21 stops, seven pass breakups and an interceptions through nine games, is expected to start at cornerback along with Daryl Worley.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Benched against Chargers

Conley was benched after playing just 13 defensive snaps against the Chargers on Sunday, Marcus Mosher of USAToday.com reports. Conley was phased out of the defensive gameplan early Sunday, just one week after returning an interception for a touchdown against the Browns. Head coach Jon Gruden claimed the 23-year-old experienced struggles against a potent Chargers offense, benching the 2017 first-rounder in favor of Daryl Worley during his first game back from suspension. It's unclear at this point if Conley will retain his role as a starter Week 6 against Seattle.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: In line for preseason debut

Conley is expected to participate in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. After missing part of June's minicamp with a groin strain, Conley then strained a hip in his first day of team drills during training camp, and the defensive back had been out of commission for roughly two weeks before returning Monday. Conley's taken part in each of Oakland's last three practices, though, and the 2017 first-rounder is now back on track to play a key role in an underwhelming Raiders secondary this season.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Practicing Monday

Conley (hip) is participating in Monday's practice, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Conley, whose rookie campaign in 2017 was shortened to just two games due to a shin injury, has dealt with both groin and hip strains throughout the offseason. The Raiders' secondary couldn't totally avoid the injury bug Monday, however, as fellow cornerback Daryl Worley left early with an undisclosed issue after colliding with a teammate. Conley will look to step into a starting role oppposite Rashaan Melvin, while veteran Leon Hall figures to factor into the mix as well.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Dealing with hip strain

According to defensive coordinator Paul Guenther, Conley (groin) is dealing with a hip strain, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. Guenther added that Conley shouldn't be out too much longer. The second-year cornerback has dealt with a multitude of injuries during his brief career, including a shin injury last year and a groin ailment during minicamp back in June. Having Conley injury-free for the remainder of camp would help ease the nerves around his health, as the Raiders will need their 2017 first-round pick to boost a pass defense that ranked 26th in the NFL last season.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Works in individual drills

Conley participated in a walk through and individual drills during Tuesday's practice, Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Conley was picked in the first round of the 2017 draft, and the Raiders hoped he would help out a needy secondary, but he was only able to suit up in two games due to a lingering shin injury he suffered in June. Oakland's defense ranked 26th against the pass in 2017, so Conley should have a clear path to a starting cornerback job now that he's practicing again.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Listed as inactive

Conley (shin) is listed as inactive for Sunday's game against the Broncos. Conley's return would've been a big plus for the nonthreatening Raiders' secondary. Expect T.J. Carrie to continue to slot in as the No. 3 cornerback and play almost every down. When Conley returns, expect him to compete for Carrie's spot.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Won't suit up Sunday

Conley (shin) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Titans. Conley will have to wait until at least Week 2 to make his NFL debut, having missed practice time throughout the offseason due to a shin injury. During his absence, expect David Amerson, Sean Smith and T.J. Carrie to see a majority of the snaps at cornerback.

  • Raiders' Gareon Conley: Limited participant Wednesday

Conley (shin) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Conley has dealt with this injury for a majority of preseason, and the Raiders may just be taking precautions with their 2017 first-round pick. However, it's important for a rookie to get full-speed reps, so it'll be interesting to see how often he's used -- if he suits up -- Sunday against the Titans.
