  • Giants' Davis Webb: Produces two TDs in first start

Webb completed 23 of 40 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown while adding 41 rushing yards and a TD on six carries in Sunday's 22-16 loss to the Eagles. Making his first career NFL start with the Giants sitting most of their starters in a season finale that had little on the line for them, Webb didn't have much luck stretching the field as only one of his completions went for more than 16 yards, but that one was a 25-yard score to Kenny Golladay in the fourth quarter. With Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor both free agents in the offseason, it's possible Webb could return and have a bigger role for the Giants in 2023, but more likely he'll be looking for a depth role again next season.

  • Davis Webb: Returns to practice squad

Webb reverted to the Giants' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. Webb was on hand in case disaster struck at quarterback for the Giants in the big Week 15 game against Washington. Both Daniel Jones and backup Tyrod Taylor made it out of the 20-12 win unscathed, so Webb's services weren't necessary.

  • Davis Webb: Returns to practice squad

Webb reverted to the Giants' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log. Webb was Daniel Jones' backup with Tyrod Taylor out due to a concussion. Since Jones was able to play through his ankle injury, Webb remained on the sidelines throughout the win over the Packers.

  • Giants' Davis Webb: Elevated as expected

The Giants elevated Webb on Saturday from their practice squad to their active roster for Sunday's game against the Packers. Daniel Jones has been cleared to play despite an ankle injury, but Tyrod Taylor (concussion) has been ruled out, so as expected, Webb will get the elevation and serve as the primary backup to the aforementioned Jones. Webb was selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but he's appeared in just one NFL contest and has yet to attempt a pass.

  • Davis Webb: In line to serve as backup

Webb will likely be elevated from the Giants' practice squad to serve as the No. 2 quarterback for Sunday's game against the Packers, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Although Daniel Jones will be available for Sunday's matchup in London, Tyrod Taylor (concussion) has been ruled out. As a result, Webb should be called up to serve as the Giants' backup quarterback. The 2017 third-rounder hasn't yet attempted a pass during the regular season in the NFL.

  • Davis Webb: Could be pressed into action for NY

Webb could be asked to either start or work as a backup for the Giants in their Week 5 contest against Green Bay in London with the status of both Daniel Jones (ankle) and Tyrod Taylor (concussion) currently unclear, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Though Jones was able to re-enter Sunday's win over Chicago after hurting his ankle in the third quarter, he didn't throw another pass, initially ceding snaps to Saquon Barkley out of the wildcat and subsequently handing off the ball to run out the clock. He likely wouldn't have been in the game at all if not for Taylor's injury, which was later confirmed to be a concussion. Taylor's ability to play in London next weekend is in considerable doubt given his diagnoses, and it's possible that Jones is suffering from a high-ankle sprain, though the injury has yet to be fully diagnosed, per Raanan . As such, there's a definite possibility of Webb being called up from the practice squad and potentially throwing his first NFL pass against the Packers next Sunday.

  • Giants' Davis Webb: Impressive in extended action

Webb completed 30 of 38 pass attempts for 202 yards and one touchdown without an interception in Sunday's preseason win over Cincinnati. He added four carries for 13 yards on the ground. Starter Daniel Jones didn't play in the contest, and backup Tyrod Taylor exited with a back injury near the end of the first quarter. As a result, Webb played the remainder of the game, and he seized the opportunity, connecting with 13 different receivers for 202 yards. His lone touchdown came on an 18-yard hookup with tight end Austin Allen in the fourth quarter. Webb already had a good chance of making the 53-man roster as the Giants' third quarterback, and his strong play over the past two weeks along with Taylor's injury make that scenario even more of a likelihood.

  • Giants' Davis Webb: Shines Sunday against Bengals

Webb completed 22 of 27 pass attempts for 204 yards and two touchdowns without committing a turnover in Sunday's 25-22 preseason win over Cincinnati. The New York passing game was very effective in the contest, as Webb, Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor combined to complete 43 of 54 passes for 356 yards. Webb had the most attempts, completions and yards of the trio, and he threw for the team's only two passing touchdowns. The 27-year-old connected with Alex Bachman twice for scores, including a 15-yard connection with 35 seconds remaining in the contest that pulled New York ahead for good. Jones and Taylor are locked into the No. 1 and 2 QB roles, respectively, but there's a good chance that the Giants will carry three signal-callers, allowing Webb to make the 53-man roster.

  • Davis Webb: Reverts to practice squad

Webb reverted to the Bills' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log. Webb was elevated to the active roster for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, and he'll return to the practice squad without seeing the field.

  • Bills' Davis Webb: Staying in Buffalo

Webb signed a reserve/future contract with the Bills on Tuesday. Webb shuffled between active roster and practice squad all season but never took a regular-season snap. It's the second-straight season that Webb has signed a reserve/future contract with the Bills. Veteran Matt Barkley is heading into free agency, potentially leaving Josh Allen and Jake Fromm as the only other quarterbacks on the roster.

  • Davis Webb: Shifts back to practice squad

Webb reverted to the Bills' practice squad Tuesday, per the NFL's official transaction log. Webb was elevated to the active roster for Monday's win over the Patriots, but he was a healthy scratch. The 2017 third-round pick has yet to make his NFL debut.

  • Davis Webb: Waived by Buffalo

Webb was waived by the Bills on Saturday, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports. It seems likely Webb will wind up on the Bills' practice squad in the near future, although it's a frustrating conclusion to an offseason in which the 2017 third-round pick hoped to compete for the backup job. Matt Barkley and Jake Fromm both made it onto the 53-man roster, so even were starter Josh Allen to go down with an injury, don't expect Webb to make a significant jump up the depth chart.

  • Bills' Davis Webb: Secures pact with Bills

Webb signed a reserve/future deal with the Bills on Monday. Webb was the Giants' third-round pick in 2017, but he only spent one season with the team and never touched the field as a backup to Eli Manning. The 24-year-old will compete for the backup job in Buffalo in 2020. Whether Matt Barkley -- the current backup to Josh Allen -- is still around remains to be seen, as Barkley will be an unrestricted free agent in March.

  • Jets' Davis Webb: Tendered by Jets

Webb, an exclusive-rights free agent, has been tendered by the Jets, Randy Lange of the team's official site reports. With Josh McCown set to become an unrestricted free agent, it appears Webb will enter the offseason as the tentative backup to Sam Darnold. It's possible that could change depending on what the Jets do in the draft and free agency.

  • Giants' Davis Webb: Gets competition in draft

Webb may face competition from rookie fourth-round pick Kyle Lauletta for the No. 2 quarterback role, Paul Schwartz of The New York Post reports. With Eli Manning in the twilight of his career, the Giants presumably will carry three quarterbacks, hoping that either Webb or Lauletta eventually proves to be their signal-caller of the future. A third-round pick last year, Webb completed 18 of 34 passes for 190 yards during the preseason and didn't take any snaps in the regular season. He was drafted by Jerry Reese and Ben McAdoo, whereas Lauletta was picked by the new regime, led by general manger Dave Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur.

  • Giants' Davis Webb: May push draft decision down to wire

Webb will have a chance to impress new head coach Pat Shurmur in the buildup to the NFL Draft, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports. "The advantage we will have is we'll have two weeks of training where we can't go on the field, it's just in the meeting room, and we're gonna get that extra minicamp, which will be right up to the draft, so it will be a great way for Davis to sorta showcase what he can do," Shurmur said Tuesday. Because the Giants made a coaching change this offseason, they can kick off workouts earlier than organizations that did not. Webb's opportunity will begin April 9, but the true test will seemingly happen April 24-26, when the team embarks on a voluntary minicamp. The latter date coincides with the first day of the draft, so his performance could sway the decision-making process of the Giants' brass once it's on the clock at No. 2 overall. With a QB-heavy class on tap, Shurmur and company are inclined to select the potential successor to long-time signal caller Eli Manning. That being said, Webb has a shot to upend those plans with an notable April.

  • Giants' Davis Webb: Will remain inactive in Week 15

Giants interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo said Wednesday that Webb will remain inactive as the team's No. 3 quarterback Week 15 against the Eagles, Dan Duggan of NJ.com reports. Though Webb has yet to dress at any point during his rookie season, Spagnuolo left open the possibility that Webb could start Week 16 against the Cardinals, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports. The 2-11 Giants, who benched Geno Smith and turned the reins of the offense back over to Eli Manning in last week's loss to the Cowboys, have little to lose by seeing what Webb, a 2017 third-round pick, can do, but it seems the rookie must first demonstrate in practices that he has a full grasp of the offense before he gets a look.

  • Giants' Davis Webb: Ticketed for another inactive status

Webb is expected to remain the Giants' No. 3 quarterback leading up to Sunday's game against the Cowboys and is thus likely to be inactive for the contest, Tom Rock of Newsday reports. In one of his first decisions after being named interim head coach following Ben McAdoo's firing Monday, Steve Spagnuolo reinserted Eli Manning as the team's starting quarterback over Geno Smith, who directed the offense during the Week 13 loss to the Raiders. Though Smith is set to become a free agent this offseason and may not have a future with the organization, he'll stick around as Manning's top backup for at least this week with Webb apparently not yet ready for game action. The rookie is expected to get more reps in practice this week, however, potentially setting him up for backup duties -- or even a start or two -- during the Giants' final three games of the regular season.

  • Giants' Davis Webb: Could start before 2017 ends

Webb is expected to receive a trial as the Giants' starting quarterback before the season ends, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. "Over the last five games, we will take a look at Geno [Smith], and we will also give Davis an opportunity," Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said Tuesday after announcing that Eli Manning would be removed from the starting role. Smith will get the first look as the No. 1 signal caller Sunday against the Raiders as the 2-9 Giants turn toward the future, with Webb, a rookie third-round pick out of California, perhaps in line to dress as the backup quarterback for the first time this season. Given Smith's modest track record as a full-time starter for the Jets in 2013 and 2014 and his status as an impending unrestricted free agent, he may only receive a game or two directing the offense until the Giants turn the reins over to Webb. Since Webb has yet to log an NFL snap, expectations should be tempered once he finally does receive an opportunity, but the fact that he's merely in line to play at some point should be enough to put him on the radar in fantasy leagues that start two quarterbacks or have the option of using a quarterback in a flex spot.

  • Giants' Davis Webb: Expected to play second half

Webb is expected to play most of the second half in Thursday's preseason finale against the Patriots, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Geno Smith and Josh Johnson are expected to split the first-half reps as they continue to battle for the top backup job. Webb, a 2017 third-round selection, is still expected to spend his rookie season as the Giants' No. 3 quarterback, likely rendering him inactive for most gamedays. He might be limited to mop-up duty Thursday if the Giants decide they want to see more of Smith and/or Johnson after halftime.
