Cardinals' James Conner: Not doing full-team drills
Conner (foot) isn't yet doing full-team drills at training camp, Darren Urban of azcardinals.com reports.
Coming back from season-ending foot surgery, Conner didn't do much during the offseason program but took part in the opening practices of training camp. Now that 11-on-11 drills are starting up, Conner has been forced to watch from the sideline while Tyler Allgeier and Jeremiyah Love take first-team reps. There will be concern for Conner's Week 1 availability if he doesn't begin full-team work within the next week or two.

Cardinals' James Conner: Advances past injuries
Conner (foot/ankle) participated in practice Thursday, Jess Root of USA Today reports.
Per Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site, Conner has recovered fully from the ankle injury that limited him to three regular-season games in 2025, though it's possible he'll be eased back in as training camp rolls along. The 31-year-old returns to a crowded Arizona backfield that now includes first-rounder Jeremiyah Love and free-agent addition Tyler Allgeier, as well as 2024 third-rounder Trey Benson. With Love and Allgeier destined to see their share of touches, Conner doesn't appear to have a clear path to steady volume in 2026, though that could change if injuries hit.

Cardinals' James Conner: Limited at OTAs
Conner (foot) has mostly been limited to side work with trainers during OTA practices, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
Coming off a season-ending foot and ankle injury in Week 3 last year, Conner accepted a pay cut this March, shortly before Arizona signed RB Tyler Allgeier. The Cardinals later drafted RB Jeremiyah Love, potentially leaving Conner as the No. 3 back after a half-decade stint as the team's starter. Trade rumors shouldn't be ignored, but Conner's presence at voluntary workouts is a clear sign he hasn't shut the door on Arizona.

Cardinals' James Conner: Cardinals draft RB in first round
Conner will likely have to settle for a reserve role in 2026, as Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports that Arizona drafted running back Jeremiyah Love third overall Thursday.
Conner started all 45 regular-season games in which he appeared over the previous four seasons, but he'll have to battle for touches in 2026 behind Love, who is expected to immediately take over as the starter for the Cardinals following a stellar NCAA career at Notre Dame. The nearly 31-year-old Conner, who was limited to three appearances in 2025 by a foot injury, also will face competition for touches from free-agent addition Tyler Allgeier and Trey Benson (knee).
