  • Austin Proehl: Let loose with injury settlement

The Giants cut Proehl (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Thursday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports. Proehl is now eligible to sign with another team and also play this upcoming season after he went unclaimed on waivers and agreed to an injury settlement with New York. • Austin Proehl: Waived with injury designation

The Giants waived Proehl (undisclosed) with an injury designation Tuesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, Proehl pulled up lame while running a route in practice last week and left the field with trainers. While the extent of the injury remains unclear, the 2018 seventh-round pick remained sidelined during Thursday's preseason contest and will now revert to the Giants' IR if he clears waivers, which -- barring an injury settlement -- would end his 2022 campaign.

Proehl (undisclosed) didn't play in Thursday's exhibition game against New England, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, Proehl pulled up lame while running a route in practice Tuesday and left the field with trainers. The 26-year-old is near the end of New York's receiver depth chart and has never played an NFL snap, so his absence from the team's first exhibition context does not bode well for his chances of making the 53-man roster.
