The Raiders waived Smith on Friday.
Smith made eight appearances for the Raiders last season, totaling 43 snaps on offense and 77 on special teams. However, the 2019 sixth-round pick failed to record an offensive touch. His release made room for the signing of free-agent wideout Jordan Veasy.

Smith has reverted back to the Raiders' practice squad, per the NFL's transaction log.
Smoth was elevated to Las Vegas' 53-man roster ahead of the team's Week 11 loss to the Bengals. He ended up logging 12 snaps on special teams in the contest.

Smith was elevated from the Raiders' practice squad ahead of Sunday's game against Cincinnati.
Smith joined the Raiders' practice squad Monday and will be available in Week 11. He should serve as the primary fullback after Alec Ingold (knee) was officially placed on injured reserve Saturday.

Smith was waived by New Orleans in late August and hasn't yet made his regular-season debut in the NFL. However, he'll be a strong candidate to join the Raiders' active roster at some point after Alec Ingold suffered a torn ACL on Sunday.

Sutton Smith: Cut before camp
Smith was waived by Seattle on Sunday.
It's something of a surprise to see Seattle cut the rookie sixth-round pick less than four months after selecting him, especially considering that he appeared to be working to provide the team with versatility both as a fullback and linebacker. In any case, the Northern Illinois will look to parlay his dual-role potential into a reserve role with another organization.

Steelers' Sutton Smith: Working out at fullback
Smith is taking handoffs and working on his pass protection in individual drills, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer Brian Batko.
Selected in the sixth round of the 2019 draft, Smith will still likely compete for a spot at his natural position of linebacker, but his size (6-0, 233) may be a better fit as a lead blocker. Even then he would almost certainly fall behind Roosevelt Nix, who has been solid creating holes for others over the past four seasons. From a fantasy perspective Smith only has value on defense, although the dual role should improve his chances of making the 53-man roster.

Steelers' Sutton Smith: Pittsburgh selects in sixth round
The Steelers selected Smith in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 175th overall.
Smith (6-foot, 233 pounds) is brutally undersized for an edge defender, but his production was exceptional at Northern Illinois and he posted strong athletic metrics that give him a margin of error to add weight without losing the burst that made him so effective as a college pass rusher. The junior entrant was incredible for the Huskies the last two years, totaling 29 sacks and 56 tackles for loss while forcing seven fumbles, recovering three and returning them for 159 yards and three touchdowns. If he can bulk up to over 240 pounds then he shouldn't lose too much of his speed (4.69-second 40) or quickness (11.07 agility score), but perhaps adding that weight is easier said than done. It's in any case a great-looking pick for Pittsburgh.
