  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Targeted twice in finale

Penny failed to secure either of this two targets during the Giants' loss to Washington in Week 18. Penny finished the 2021 season with career-high marks across the board while appearing in all 17 games. He logged 24 carries for 99 yards and one score on the ground while also securing nine of 13 targets for 30 yards and another touchdown. The fullback is set to hit free agency at the end of the league year.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Minimal involvement in loss

Penny recorded one rush for two yards while catching all four of his targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Eagles. Penny, like the rest of the Giants' offense, couldn't find much success against a tough Eagles defense. His four catches in the passing game qualified as a team high, but the veteran's production was insignificant at best. As the team's fullback on a struggling offense, there just isn't enough opportunity for Penny to sustain any sort fantasy relevance.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Finds end zone in loss

Penny recorded one rush for eight yards, while catching his only target for a three-yard touchdown in Sunday's 37-21 loss to the Chargers. Penny made the most of his two touches, scoring his second touchdown of the year. Penny's role, however, will continue to be especially limited with Saquon Barkley back in the lineup. The 28-year-old will continue to operate as the Giants' fullback and likely find it difficult to produce much in the stat column when the Giants host the Cowboys in Week 15.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Gets work in relief

Penny recorded five carries for 35 yards in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Raiders. He added two receptions for minus-8 yards. Devontae Booker dealt with a hip injury late in the game but was seemingly cleared from a major injury after undergoing X-rays, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. However, his absence gave Penny the chance to take over the backfield to close the game in the fourth quarter. Penny was fairly productive in the role, picking up gains of four and 12 yards on a drive that concluded with a field goal to put the Giants up seven. However, the team now heads into a Week 10 bye, which should give both Saquon Barkley (ankle) and Booker the chance to get healthy while leaving Penny with a minimal role.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Not involved on offense

Penny didn't record any touches in Monday's 20-17 loss to the Chiefs. Penny played just seven of the Giants' 60 offensive snaps, with most of his work coming on special teams. He's been operating as the Giants' de facto No. 2 running back behind Devontae Booker for the past three weeks with Saquon Barkley (ankle) out, but that hasn't translated into much fantasy value. Barkley could be back in action as soon as Sunday's game against Las Vegas, so Penny's already meager role on offense will likely dwindle further from here.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Ineffective in limited role

Penny carried nine times for 24 yards in Sunday's 25-3 win over the Panthers. Penny operated as the Giants' No. 2 running back behind Devontae Booker as Saquon Barkley misses time with an ankle injury. As the team's fullback, Penny will likely revert to a very limited role when Barkley returns, which could be as soon as Week 8.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Scores a short TD

Penny had three carries for 15 yards and a score Sunday against the Rams. He also caught one of two targets for one yard. Penny is the team's fullback and will occasionally take a hand-off, but Devontae Booker is firmly established as the starter with Saquon Barkley out.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Gets a few touches

Penny rushed twice for 16 yards and caught his lone target for seven yards in Sunday's 17-13 preseason loss to the Browns. Penny not only blocked for Devontae Booker and Corey Clement, but the fullback also got involved with a few touches for himself. Regardless of who starts in the Giants backfield Week 1, when star Saquon Barkley hopefully will be ready to go, Penny is anticipated to serve as their lead blocker, having been the team's fullback since 2018.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Shifts to IR

Penny (illness) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Zack Rosenblatt of the Newark Star-Ledger reports. Penny had already been ruled out for Week 17, but his shift to IR allowed for the Giants to activate linebacker Kyler Fackrell (lower leg).

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Out Week 17

Penny (illness) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Penny is slated to miss a second consecutive contest with the illness, so his 2020 regular season will end with six carries for 15 yards and two catches on three targets for 20 yards in 14 games.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Missing from practice

Penny (illness) isn't participating in Thursday's practice, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Penny has been away from the Giants since Sunday, when he was made inactive ahead of the team's loss to the Ravens after picking up an illness. The Giants have clarified that the ailment isn't related to COVID-19, but Penny's ongoing absence from practice nonetheless casts some on his availability for the Week 17 matchup with the Cowboys. The fullback has handled a minor role on offense over his 14 appearances this season, playing no more than 14 snaps in any contest.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Still sidelined by illness

Penny (illness) didn't practice Wednesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. This illness is not related to COVID-19 but it's clearly no walk in the park, as it also kept Penny out of last week's loss to the Ravens. The fullback and special teams contributor will have two more chances to resume practicing before Sunday's showdown with the Cowboys.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Just 48 scrimmage yards in 2019

Penny (back) carried the ball 15 times for 39 yards across 16 games in 2019. He also secured two of four targets for nine yards. Penny plays a key role on special teams for the Giants, and he also occasionally contributes on offense as a blocker. The 26-year-old is set to become a restricted free agent, and it remains to be seen if the Giants will opt to retain him.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Sustains back injury

Penny was forced out of Sunday's game against the Eagles with a back injury, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Penny rarely rushes the ball with just 15 carries over 15 games, but he's a valued fullback while contributing on special teams. The Giants don't have another fullback, so they may opt to use either Kaden Smith or Garrett Dickerson in the backfield if necessary.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Rushes twice in loss

Penny took two carries for two yards and couldn't haul in his only target during Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Packers. Penny was deployed on two third downs and converted on one of them while being stuffed on the other. The 26-year-old isn't the concern of fantasy owners, but he's a worthy real-life value in short-yardage situations.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Enhanced role may await

Penny could be in store for an elevated role in the Giants' game plan Thursday against the Patriots with neither Saquon Barkley (ankle) nor Wayne Gallman (concussion) expected to be available to play, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Barkley was a limited participant in practice Tuesday while Gallman was held out of the session entirely, but with the Giants facing a quick turnaround for their Week 6 matchup, the team will likely err on the side of caution with its franchise back and hold him out for a third straight contest. If that's the case, the Giants will count Penny and Jon Hilliman as the lone healthy backfield options on the 53-man roster, though the team would almost certainly promote Austin Walter from the practice squad before Thursday to provide additional depth. Though he's listed as a fullback, Penny spent the first two years in the pro ranks as a tailback and owns a 3.9 yards-per-carry mark over 46 career totes. Considering that Hilliman is an undrafted rookie who has delivered underwhelming production to date, it wouldn't be surprising if the Giants ultimately chose to lean more heavily on Penny as Thursday's contest unfolds.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Gets three carries

Penny had three carries for 12 yards against the Redskins on Sunday. Normally slotted at fullback, Penny saw some work at running back after Jon Hilliman fumbled. It's possible the Giants stick with Hilliman or bring in another back this week, but Penny could see more carries behind Wayne Gallman in Week 5 while Saquon Barkley recovers from an ankle injury.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Re-ups with Giants

Penny is re-signing an undisclosed contract with the Giants, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports. Penny rushed seven times for 25 yards across 14 games with the Giants last season. He also caught eight passes for 50 yards. The 6-foot-2, 234-pound fullback will make most of his impact in 2019 as a blocker for lead running back Saquon Barkley.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Practices in full

Penny (back) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Carmen Vital of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Penny appears to have fully recovered from a back injury sustained during Monday's win over the 49ers. The fullback is on track to suit up for Sunday's tilt against the Buccaneers, but is unlikely to play a notable role on the Giants' offense.

  • Giants' Elijhaa Penny: Nursing back injury

Penny is nursing a back injury and would have been withheld from Wednesday's practice had the Giants held a formal session, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. The Giants instead held a jog-through session Wednesday and will likely stage their first practice of the week Thursday. Another update on the fullback should come at that time, but it appears there's some concern about his availability for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
