  • Colts' Riley Leonard: In line to practice Wednesday

Leonard (knee) will practice Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

With Daniel Jones out for the season due to an Achilles' injury and Anthony Richardson (orbital) still on IR, Leonard is candidate to start Sunday's game against the Seahawks. However, now that he's dealing with a knee injury the QB's status will need to be monitored closely. Leonard's looming practice participation is a positive sign, but at this stage coach Shane Steichen has yet to reveal the Colts' Week 15 QB plans. Also in the mix on that front are Brett Rypien, who was signed to the team's active roster Wednesday, as well as 44-year-old Philip Rivers, who has officially joined Indianapolis' practice squad. Per Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis, when asked if Leonard would start this weekend if healthy, Steichen said "we will see" while noting that Rivers will be evaluated in practice this week.

  • Colts' Riley Leonard: Full practice, Week 15 starter TBD

Leonard (knee) was listed as a full practice participant Wednesday.

Per JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site, Leonard, who subbed in for an injured Daniel Jones (Achilles) on Sunday against the Jaguars, emerged from Week 14 action with a knee injury. However, the QB's full participant in Wednesday's practice session puts him in a position to be available Sunday against the Seahawks. With Jones out for the rest of the season and Anthony Richardson (orbital) still on IR, Brett Rypien was signed to the team's active roster and 44-year-old Philip Rivers officially joined Indianapolis' practice squad Wednesday. At this stage, coach Shane Steichen acknowledged that the Colts' Week 15 signal-caller plans have yet to be determined and it's possible that Rivers could get the nod (rather than Leonard) versus Seattle, depending on how he fares at practice this week. With that in mind Steichen noted, "we'll see how the week goes...We'll get to the end of the week and make that decision."

  • Colts' Riley Leonard: Dealing with PCL sprain

Leonard was diagnosed with a Grade 1 PCL sprain of his right knee following Sunday's 36-19 loss to the Jaguars, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

After Daniel Jones sustained a season-ending torn right Achilles tendon late in the first quarter of Sunday's contest, Leonard stepped in for the remainder of the game. Though the rookie didn't miss a snap after taking over the offense, he emerged from the game with a knee issue that threatens his availability for a Week 15 game in Seattle. The Colts plan to have Leonard make his first NFL start this weekend if he's healthy enough to do so, as Anthony Richardson (orbital) has yet to resume practicing and will remain on injured reserve for at least one more week. Practice squad member Brett Rypien is the lone healthy quarterback in the Colts organization at the moment however, and would get the nod in Leonard can't play. Regardless of Leonard's status for Sunday, Indianapolis is expected to add depth to its quarterback room, and 44-year-old Philip Rivers worked out for the team Monday night. Because Rivers hasn't played professionally since 2020, the Colts would have him start out on the practice squad if he gets signed rather than having him immediately challenge Leonard or Rypien for a spot on the depth chart.

  • Colts' Riley Leonard: Tending to strained knee

Leonard sustained a strained right knee ligament in Sunday's 36-19 loss to the Jaguars and is considered week-to-week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Pressed into duty after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles injury early in Sunday's contest, Leonard completed 18 of 29 passes for 145 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while adding five yards and a touchdown in his first extended NFL action. Though he's expected to take over as the Colts' starter in place of Jones, Leonard will first have to prove that the knee issue isn't severe enough to keep him sidelined Week 15 against the Seahawks. Even if Leonard is ultimately cleared to play, Indianapolis will almost certainly have to bring in quarterback depth this week, and reports have recently emerged that 44-year-old Philip Rivers will be brought in for a workout Tuesday.

  • Colts' Riley Leonard: Dealing with knee injury

Leonard is dealing with a knee injury, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.

Leonard replaced an injured Daniel Jones (Achilles) in Sunday's contest and finished out the game, but it appears he picked up an injury of his own. The extent of the injury is not yet known. With Jones out for the season and Anthony Richardson (orbital) on injured reserve, practice-squad quarterback Brett Rypien is currently the only healthy Colts quarterback option.

  • Colts' Riley Leonard: Week 15 status uncertain

Coach Shane Steichen noted Monday that "the hope" is Leonard (right knee) will be able to play Sunday against the Seahawks, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

At this stage, Steichen can't say for certain that Leonard will be available this weekend, which means that current practice squad member Brett Rypien may be pressed into duty in Week 15. In any case, it seems likely that the Colts will bring in another QB in short order, with Daniel Jones out for the season with an Achilles' injury and Anthony Richardson (orbital) still on IR.

  • Colts' Riley Leonard: Starting opportunity awaits

Leonard completed 18 of 29 passes for 145 yards for no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 36-19 loss to the Jaguars. He added two rushes for five yards and a rushing touchdown.

Leonard entered the game late in the first quarter after Daniel Jones suffered an Achilles injury. It was Leonard's second appearance as a pro, and some inconsistencies followed, as expected. Positively, he used his mobility well to extend plays, on one occasion hitting Alec Pierce on the run for a 24-yard gain. Leonard also scrambled for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to record his first NFL score. On the other hand, he had a pass intercepted and was also sacked for a safety on back-to-back possessions in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for the Colts. Jones' injury is feared to be season-ending, lining Leonard up to be the starter so long as Anthony Richardson (eye) is also out.

  • Colts' Riley Leonard: Debuts for final two drives

Leonard took the field for the Colts' final two possessions of Sunday's 38-14 win over the Titans, throwing incompletions on two pass attempts and rushing once for one yard.

A healthy inactive for the Colts' first five contests, Leonard handled backup quarterback duties for the third game in a row after Anthony Richardson suffered a fractured orbital in a pregame workout prior to the team's Week 6 win over the Cardinals. Though Brett Rypien looms on the practice squad as a potential alternative for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, Leonard looks poised to stick around as Daniel Jones' top backup until Richardson is ready to return from injured reserve. The rookie out of Notre Dame got the chance to make his NFL debut in garbage time of Sunday's blowout win, going three-and-out on both of the drives he directed.

  • Colts' Riley Leonard: Remains No. 2 quarterback

Head coach Shane Steichen said Friday that Leonard will remain the Colts' No. 2 quarterback "for now," James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

The 2025 sixth-round pick from Notre Dame served as Indianapolis' emergency third quarterback for the first five games of the season. However, with Anthony Richardson (orbital) being placed on injured reserve Oct. 13, Leonard stepped in as starter Daniel Jones' top backup in the Week 7 win over the Chargers, and the Colts appear content to stick with Leonard in the No. 2 role for at least another week. Brett Rypien looms on the practice squad as a more experienced option if the Colts elect to replace Leonard down the road.

  • Colts' Riley Leonard: Stepping in as No. 2 quarterback

Leonard appears in line to serve as the top backup to starting quarterback Daniel Jones for a second straight game Sunday against the Chargers after the Colts placed Anthony Richardson (orbital) on injured reserve Monday, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.

After being inactive for the first five games of the season, Leonard suited up as the Colts' No. 2 quarterback during this past Sunday's 31-27 win over the Cardinals due to Richardson sustaining an orbital fracture in a freak pregame accident. With Richardson's injury now set to keep him out for at least four more games, Leonard is the lone healthy option at quarterback on the 53-man roster beyond Jones, though Indianapolis signed veteran Brett Rypien to its practice squad Wednesday. Rypien brings more experience to the table and could eventually make a push for the No. 2 role if he's able to quickly familiarize himself with head coach Shane Steichen's playbook, but Leonard, a rookie sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame, would offer far more fantasy upside if he's forced into action in the event of an injury to Jones. Leonard put his dual-threat abilities on full display during the preseason, carrying seven times for 58 yards while completing 34 of 56 pass attempts (60.7 percent) for 345 yards, one touchdown and one interception over three games.
