Panthers' Kenny Pickett: Serving as backup to Young
Pickett will be the Panthers' backup quarterback against the Falcons on Sunday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
For a second consecutive week, Pickett will be the QB2 behind Bryce Young, with Haynes King (coach's decision) serving as the emergency third quarterback. Pickett has appeared in 37 regular-season games and has a 16-11 record across 27 starts in his NFL career, with most of those starts taking place in 2022 and 2023 as a member of the Steelers.

Panthers' Kenny Pickett: Solid in preseason opener
Pickett started the Hall of Fame Game against the Cardinals on Thursday, completing eight of 11 passes for 62 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
Pickett was in on the first three drives for the Panthers, but the first pair of possessions netted a modest 38 yards on eight plays. However, the 2022 first-round pick was able to lead Carolina to its first touchdown the third time he had the ball, connecting with four different targets while helping drive the Panthers a total of 67 yards on 10 plays. Pickett kept most of his throws close to the line of scrimmage, but he recorded 19- and 18-yard completions to John Metchie and AJ Dillon, respectively, during the scoring march. Pickett projects to serve as the primary backup to Bryce Young during the regular season, and if Thursday's performance is any indication, the former appears to be picking up head coach Dave Canales' offense well in his first summer in Carolina.

Panthers' Kenny Pickett: Set for a series
Pickett is set to play only a series or two in Thursday's Hall of Fame game against the Cardinals, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
After Pickett plays, rookie undrafted free agent Haynes King is set to play the rest of the game at quarterback. Pickett has bounced around teams since leaving the Steelers in 2024, playing for the Eagles and then the Raiders before settling with the Panthers this offseason. The 2022 first-rounder is looking to operate at a high level and display that he has what it takes to be an insurance option for the current NFC South champions.

Panthers' Kenny Pickett: Set to start HOF Game
Coach David Canales said that Pickett is slated to start Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Cardinals, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
Per Reed, none of the Panthers' key starters are in line to see action in the contest, a group that presumably includes QB Bryce Young, WR Tetairoa McMillan and RB Chuba Hubbard. Once Pickett gets his share of reps Thursday, look for rookie UDFA Haynes King to get some work in versus Arizona's reserves.

Panthers' Kenny Pickett: Moving on to Carolina
Pickett is slated to sign a one-year contract with the Panthers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Journeyman QB Andy Dalton remains under contract with the Panthers, but considering his guaranteed money ($2 million) is half that of Pickett's, the latter seems poised to be Bryce Young's backup in 2026 while Dalton could see himself cut for minimal cap savings. Since moving on from Pittsburgh after the 2023 season, Pickett has made 11 appearances (three starts) the last two campaigns between the Eagles and Raiders, completing 53 of 87 passes (60.9 percent) for 479 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions, rushing 14 times for 37 yards and one more score and fumbling twice (one lost).
