  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: TEs to Start

Ferguson (knee) returned to practice Wednesday after sitting out in Week 2. As long as he's healthy, Ferguson has the chance to be a top-five Fantasy tight end in all leagues. The Ravens were abused by Brock Bowers in Week 2 for nine catches for 98 yards on nine targets. And in Week 1, the combination of Travis Kelce and Noah Gray had six catches for 71 yards on seven targets. This could be a solid outing for Ferguson in Week 3.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Officially limited Wednesday

Ferguson (knee) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Ferguson emerged from Week 1 with an MCL sprain and bone bruise in his left knee, which didn't allow him to practice last week. A doubtful designation ultimately forecast his lack of availability ahead of an eventual loss to the Saints last Sunday, but his ability to mix into drills to kick off Week 3 prep indicates he's making progress in his recovery. The extent of Ferguson's participation Thursday and Friday likely will be the determining factors in his chances to return to action Sunday versus the Ravens.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Returns to practice

Ferguson (knee) is taking part in Wednesday's practice, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. Ferguson is practicing in full pads Wednesday, per Saad Yousuf of The Athletic, an indication that the tight end is trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game versus the Ravens. He sat out the Cowboys' Week 2 loss to the Saints due to an MCL sprain and bone bruise in his left knee. The Cowboys will release their first Week 3 injury report later Wednesday, when it will be known whether Ferguson was a limited or full participant in practice.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Contrarian DFS Play

We're expecting Ferguson to return in Week 3, and his price is about $1,000 too low. Luke Schoonmaker saw six targets in Ferguson's absence last week because the position is just etched into Dak Prescott's target tree. Hopefully, the injury designation holds down Ferguson's roster rate. It's rare we get a high-target, low-rostered tight end who is also underpriced and playing in the game with the biggest total on the slate.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Expected back Week 3

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday that Ferguson (knee) was "really close" to playing in Sunday's 44-19 loss to the Saints and that "the expectation is for him to be back" Week 3 against the Ravens, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Ferguson suffered an MCL sprain and bone bruise in his left knee Week 1, but the injury looks as though it will cost him just one game. More information about Ferguson's recovery progress will arrive Wednesday, at the latest, when Dallas' first official injury report of Week 3 is released. Luke Schoonmaker looked solid while logging a spot start at tight end Week 2, catching all six of his targets for 43 yards. If there are any lingering concerns about Ferguson's health whatsoever, the Cowboys should feel confident in turning to Schoonmaker again if Ferguson needs more time off to heal up from the knee injury.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Not suiting up Sunday

Ferguson (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Saints. Ferguson's absence for the Week 2 matchup comes as little surprise considering he was unable to log any practice activity Wednesday through Friday after suffering an MCL sprain and bone bruise in his left knee during the Cowboys' 33-17 win over the Browns this past Sunday. Luke Schoonmaker is likely to step in as the Cowboys' starting tight end Sunday, though he probably can't be counted on to take on as much involvement in the passing game as Ferguson usually handles after producing a modest 8-65-2 receiving line on 15 targets over 348 offensive snaps as a rookie last season. Ferguson will hope to get back on the practice field in some fashion during the upcoming week with the aim of returning to action next Sunday versus the Ravens.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Doubtful for Sunday

Ferguson (knee) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against New Orleans, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports. Coach Mike McCarthy said Friday morning that Ferguson would miss another practice but could still play in Sunday's game if he returns for a light practice Saturday and looks comfortable working out. The Cowboys apparently consider it highly unlikely, setting up Luke Schoonmaker and undrafted rookie Brevyn Spann-Ford to fill in at tight end ahead of the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Ferguson is recovering from an MCL sprain suffered in the Week 1 win over Cleveland, and while he said the pain subsided quickly, he may still be bothered by stiffness and/or swelling.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Misses practice, could still play

Ferguson (knee) didn't practice Friday, but coach Mike McCarthy said the tight end still could play Sunday against the Saints if he practices Saturday, Patrick Walker of the Cowboys' official site reports. Ferguson hasn't practiced this week, even though he said Wednesday that his pain was a "zero" on a 1-10 scale, per Walker. Playing in a game seven days after suffering an MCL sprain has always been somewhat of a long shot, but it's at least promising for Ferguson's Week 3 availability that the Cowboys haven't yet ruled him out for Week 2. It sounds like Ferguson will be listed as questionable or doubtful on the final injury report Friday afternoon.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Unable to practice Thursday

Ferguson (knee) did not practice Thursday, Joe Hoyt of AllDLLS.com reports. Ferguson was spotted working off to the side with the rehab group Thursday, per Ed Werder of Channel 8 Dallas. The starting tight end still hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Saints despite having suffered a bone bruise and MCL sprain Week 1, but for a real chance at suiting up he may have to practice in at least a limited capacity Friday, prior to the Cowboys assigning him an official injury designation for the weekend.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Sits out practice, but feeling good

Ferguson (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Joe Hoyt of AllDLLS.com reports. While he never stood much chance to practice three days after suffering a bone bruise and MCL sprain, Ferguson said Wednesday that his pain is already down to a "zero" on a 1-to-10 scale, per Patrick Walker of the Cowboys' official site. The injury clearly isn't as bad as it initially looked when he made an early exit from the Week 1 win at Cleveland, with Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reporting Wednesday that head coach Mike McCarthy is optimistic about Ferguson's chances of playing against the Saints this Sunday. Even if he doesn't end up playing this week, Ferguson should avoid a stint on injured reserve and push to return within the next few games.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Optimism for Week 2

Head coach Mike McCarthy said that Ferguson (knee) will work with the rehab group at practice Wednesday, and the Cowboys remain optimistic about his chances of playing Sunday against the Saints, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. Ferguson suffered an MCL sprain and bone bruise in his knee during Dallas' win over the Browns in Week 1, but he's surprisingly not yet been ruled out for Week 2. The tight end will have two more opportunities to upgrade his practice participation before receiving an injury designation for the weekend. If Ferguson is able to make enough progress, the Cowboys may not hesitate to clear him to play versus New Orleans. Backup tight end Luke Schoonmaker and fullback Hunter Luepke will both be candidates to handle increased offensive reps in the event that Ferguson misses any time.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Not yet ruled out for Week 2

Ferguson hasn't been ruled out to play Sunday versus the Saints, despite being diagnosed with an MCL sprain and bone bruise in his knee Monday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. Ferguson's MCL sprain seems to be on the minor end if the Cowboys still consider him a candidate to suit up Week 2, though the team's top tight end appears more likely than not to miss time. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network labeled Ferguson week-to-week, and even the shorter recovery timeframes for MCL injuries usually require two weeks of rest. Fullback Hunter Luepke benefited from increased target volume Week 1 versus Cleveland after Ferguson left the field, but 2023 second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker also seems to be a candidate to start at tight end at home against the Saints on Sunday.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Dealing with MCL sprain

Ferguson (knee) has been diagnosed with an MCL sprain, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Ferguson at least has avoided a more severe knee injury, but an MCL sprain will still likely result in the starting tight end missing time. Packers QB Jordan Love also sustained an MCL sprain Week 1 and is expected to miss 3-to-6 weeks, but at this point Ferguson's specific recovery timeline remains undisclosed. Rapoport adds that Ferguson also is dealing with a bone bruise and is considered week-to-week. Luke Schoonmaker could step into the starting role Week 2 versus the Saints, but it was fullback Hunter Luepke who saw increased target volume Sunday against the Browns after Ferguson left the game.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Likely avoided ACL tear

Ferguson (knee) is believed to have avoided an ACL tear based on initial tests, and X-rays on his knee came back negative Sunday, but he will have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury he suffered in Sunday's 33-17 win over the Browns, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Ferguson isn't out of the woods, but at least he seems to have avoided a season-ending injury to his ACL. A recovery timeline will likely be established after additional testing clarifies the nature and extent of Ferguson's injury. His next chance to take the field will be Sept. 15 against the Saints.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Injures knee in Week 1

Ferguson (knee) went to the locker room in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Browns, Nick Harris of the Cowboys' official site reports. Ferguson went down holding his knee after getting tackled at the end of a two-yard catch, which brought him up to three catches for 15 yards on five targets. The severity of the starting tight end's injury will likely be clarified after additional testing, but with the Cowboys holding a comfortable 27-10 lead at the time of his injury, Ferguson probably won't return to action Sunday.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Sees no preseason action

Ferguson didn't play in any of the Cowboys' three preseason games this season. The 2022 fourth-round pick is already locked in as the starting tight end, so Dallas didn't waste any preseason snaps on Ferguson, instead giving more work to the depth options fighting for a roster spot like John Stephens, Peyton Hendershot and Brevyn Spann-Ford. Ferguson had a breakout 2023 campaign, hauling in 71 of 102 targets for 761 yards and five touchdowns, and with CeeDee Lamb still holding out and Brandin Cooks nursing a knee injury at the end of training camp, he could become an even more important receiving option for Dak Prescott to begin the regular season.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Logging impressive offseason

Coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that Ferguson is "having a great offseason" and praised the tight end's "consistency and his passion," Patrik Walker of the Cowboys' official site reports. Ferguson, a 2022 fourth-round pick, enjoyed a real breakout season as Dallas' top tight end last season, with a 71-761-5 receiving line and Pro Bowl honors. The third-year pro is now reportedly improving at multiple facets of the game, and he could be positioned to take the next step forward as a fantasy producer. Dak Prescott's clear top target will be CeeDee Lamb, with Brandin Cooks working as the No. 2 wideout, but at this stage 2023 second-rounder Luke Schoonmaker (hamstring) doesn't look like a true threat to Ferguson's workload.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Three TDs in stunning playoff loss

Ferguson caught 10 of 12 targets for 93 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 48-32 wild-card loss to the Packers. The second-year tight end was Dak Prescott's top option in the red zone, catching a one-yard score on the final play of the first half before adding two more TDs of seven and 14 yards in the fourth quarter as the Cowboys tried desperately to mount a comeback. Ferguson's huge playoff performance came on the heels of a breakout regular season in which he caught 71 of 102 targets for 761 yards and five touchdowns, finishing ninth among TEs in receptions and eighth in receiving yards. Assuming Prescott returns to Dallas in 2024, Ferguson figures to be one of his top targets once again.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Six catches in season finale

Ferguson caught all six of his targets for 69 yards in Sunday's 38-10 win over the Commanders. As expected, Washington's defense put up little resistance to the Dallas passing attack, and Ferguson tied Brandin Cooks for second on the team in catches behind CeeDee Lamb's 13. Ferguson wraps up a breakout regular season with 71 catches for 761 yards -- both top-10 figures in the NFL among tight ends -- and five TDs on 102 targets, and he figures to be one of Dak Prescott's favorite options in the wild-card round Sunday as the Cowboys take on the Packers.

  • Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Contrarian DFS Play

Ferguson hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 13. He hasn't topped 50 yards since Week 14. Hopefully that pulls down his roster rate, because the role is still just as good and the targets are still there. In a game that could see Dak Prescott throw for 400 yards and 4 TD if he wants to, I love the idea of an underpriced, under-rostered Ferguson.
