Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Two catches in Chiefs debut
Allen caught two passes on five targets for 20 yards during the Chiefs' 20-12 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday.
Allen joined Jalen Royals and Tyquan Thornton as the Chiefs' three starting wide receivers while Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy (shoulder) observed Saturday's preseason game from the sidelines. Allen turned a screen pass from Justin Fields into a big gain the first quarter, only for the play to be negated by a holding penalty by Royals. Allen didn't end up registering his first catch until late in the second quarter, but he made a nice leaping 13-yard grab on a third-and-8 to move the chains. The rookie fifth-rounder drew praise after the game from head coach Andy Reid, who told reporters that Allen has "been doing well in camp...Looked like he picked right up from there," per Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com. Thornton is currently listed as the third starting wide receiver alongside Worthy and Rice on the Chiefs' unofficial depth chart, but Allen could play himself into a prominent role on offense with a strong performance in training camp and preseason games. The Chiefs will hit the road for their next exhibition game Saturday, Aug. 22, against the Buccaneers.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Returns from shin injury
Allen (shin) returned to practice Friday morning, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
The rookie fifth-round pick was one of Kansas City's early standouts at training camp, building chemistry with Patrick Mahomes while taking some snaps on the first-team offense. Allen then suffered a shin bruise Saturday and missed most of the week, but he's back in action Friday to continue making his case for a Week 1 role.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Expected back this week
Coach Andy Reid noted Monday that he expects Allen (shin) to return to practice later this week, Nate Taylor of ESPN.com reports.
The same applies to fellow WR Xavier Worthy, who is dealing with a sprained shoulder. Allen suffered a shin bruise on his left leg during Saturday's training camp practice, but based on Reid's comment Monday, it's not a serious issue for the 2026 fifth-rounder. Once Allen is able to work fully, he'll continue to compete with Tyquan Thornton and Jalen Royals for depth chart slotting behind Rashee Rice and Worthy.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Diagnosed with shin bruise
Allen was diagnosed with a shin bruise on his left leg that he suffered during Saturday's training camp practice, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
It's a best-case scenario for the rookie fifth-rounder, who had to be carted off the field after sustaining the injury on a special teams drill. Per Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star, the Chiefs consider Allen day-to-day, which puts the young wideout on track to be available for the team's preseason opener against the Rams on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Evaluated for lower-leg injury
Allen is being evaluated for a left lower-leg injury that he sustained during Saturday's training camp practice, Pete Sweeney of The Kansas City Star reports.
Allen picked up the injury when he collided with Kaiir Elam during a special teams drill in Saturday's practice, and the injury was severe enough for the former to be carted off the field. Allen has been diagnosed with a lower-leg injury, but its severity is still being evaluated by Chiefs medical staff. The rookie fifth-rounder had been one of the standout players during the early portions of training camp, but an extended absence would mean that Tyquan Thornton, Jalen Royals, Nikko Remigio and Jason Brownlee will all have the chance to earn more snaps on offense behind Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy (shoulder).

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Carted off field with knee injury
Allen was carted off the field during Saturday's training camp practice due to an apparent left knee injury, Nate Taylor of ESPN.com reports.
It appeared as though Allen sustained the knee injury on a special teams punt rep, when he collided with corner Kaiir Elam. Allen initially limped off the field with the help of trainers before being carted to the medical tent, where he'll undergo further tests to evaluate the severity of the injury. Allen was a fifth-round pick of the 2026 NFL Draft and has demonstrated early rapport with quarterback Patrick Mahomes through the early stages of training camp.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Getting first-team snaps already
Allen took first-team reps Wednesday and was praised by coach Andy Reid after practice, Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports reports. "Yeah, so Cyrus (Allen) had a good day today," Reid said. "And I think Pat's (Mahomes) got some trust there."
At the first practice of training camp, Allen took some snaps with the starting offense alongside Xavier Worthy, Tyquan Thornton and Jalen Royals. Top wideout Rashee Rice (knee) was on the field for the beginning of practice, but he left before 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s, freeing up more first-team work for Allen and Royals. It sounds like Allen made the most of his opportunity, while Royals reportedly struggled with drops. It's only one practice, but Allen, a rookie fifth-round pick, is at least putting himself in excellent position for a roster spot. He may also generate interest as a deep fantasy sleeper given Kansas City's shaky WR room and excellent QB play.

Chiefs' Cyrus Allen: Lands in Kansas City
The Chiefs selected Allen in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 176th overall.
Allen (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) led Cincinnati with 674 receiving yards while totaling a career-high 13 touchdowns across as many games in 2025, and he also logged stints at Louisiana Tech and Texas A&M during his collegiate career. He assisted his draft profile courtesy of a strong showing at the Senior Bowl and a solid showing at the NFL Combine (4.49-second 40-yard dash), but given that Nikko Remigio, Jalen Royals, Jason Brownlee, Jimmy Holiday and Andrew Armstrong are all also competing for depth opportunities behind starting wideouts Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton, Allen may have to show competence on special teams this offseason in order to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.
