Pittsburgh waived Potter on Saturday, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
Potter signed with the Steelers in April as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson. He appeared in two of the team's three preseason contests, converting two of his three field-goal attempts and all three of his extra-point tries. However, his performance was not enough to unseat longtime starting kicker Chris Boswell. Potter will now look to either join up with Pittsburgh's practice squad or latch on elsewhere heading into the 2023 regular season.
Potter missed his lone field-goal attempt during Thursday's 24-0 preseason win over the Falcons.
Potter was perfect during the Steelers' preseason opener but didn't play during last weekend's exhibition win over Buffalo. He got a chance to contribute late in Thursday's matchup but missed a 43-yard field-goal attempt wide left in the fourth quarter. Chris Boswell converted his lone field-goal attempt while making all three of his extra-point tries after making all five of his kicks last weekend, so he appears to be the favorite to serve as the team's starting placekicker to begin the regular season.

Steelers' B.T. Potter: Doesn't play Saturday
Rotowire
Potter didn't play during Saturday's 27-15 preseason win over the Bills.
Potter served as the Steelers' placekicker during last weekend's preseason opener and was perfect on five kicks, but veteran Chris Boswell had his opportunity to shine Saturday and was also perfect on five kicks. Potter signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent earlier this offseason, and the battle to serve as the team's starting placekicker in 2023 could come down to the wire.

Steelers' B.T. Potter: Perfect in preseason opener
Rotowire
Potter converted both of his field-goal attempts while making all three of his extra-point tries during Friday's 27-17 preseason win over Tampa Bay.
Potter joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent during the offseason to compete with Chris Boswell for the starting placekicking job. Potter got the first opportunity to kick during the preseason, while Boswell didn't see the field. It wouldn't be surprising to see Boswell have some chances to play later in the preseason, but Potter had an encouraging performance Friday.
