Fitzgerald made four of his five PATs and converted his sole field-goal attempt in Sunday's 59-37 loss to the Bears.
Fitzgerald's 44-yard field goal was his only challenge of the night, and the kicker was up to it. Panthers' Ryan Fitzgerald: Makes six kicks Friday
Fitzgerald converted two of three field-goal attempts while making all four PATs in Friday night's preseason game against the Jaguars.
Fitzgerald contributed 10 of the Panthers' 34 total points in the effort, making 48- and 61-yard field goals while missing a 31-yarder. The second-year kicker out of Florida State proved he has the leg for long-distance snipes but also flashed some consistency issues by missing a short-range kick. Panthers' Ryan Fitzgerald: Aims to build on strong rookie year
Fitzgerald is set to open the 2026 campaign as Carolina's kicker following a standout rookie season, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
After entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent, Fitzgerald won Carolina's kicker job in training camp last year and held the role through the campaign, making 24 of 29 field-goal attempts and 27 of 30 extra-point tries over 17 regular-season games. Even more impressively, he tied for the league lead with four game-winning FGs and ranked third in opponents' average drive start, a measure of his effectiveness on kickoffs. Fitzgerald's rookie season also included two made field goals of 55-plus yards, so he's essentially checked all the boxes. He isn't expected to have any competition for the starting role heading into training camp.

Panthers' Ryan Fitzgerald: Misses lone field-goal attempt
Fitzgerald missed his only field-goal try but converted on both point-after attempts during Saturday's 16-14 loss to the Buccaneers.
Fitzgerald came up short on a 54-yard field-goal try in the third quarter of Saturday's loss. It was a miss that proved costly, as the Panthers lost by just two points. The rookie kicker from Florida State appeared in all 17 of Carolina's regular-season games in 2025, making 24 of 29 field-goal attempts and 27 of 30 point-after tries. However, he struggled from long range, converting on just two of five field-goal attempts from 50-plus yards. Under contract through the 2027 season, Fitzgerald is expected to at least compete for Carolina's top placekicker role heading into the 2026 season.
