  • Yannick Weber: Announces retirement

Weber announced his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday. Weber played in 13 NHL seasons split between the Canadiens, Predators, Canucks and Penguins, totaling 28 goals, 66 assists, 195 PIM, 639 shots, 382 blocks and 479 hits in 499 career appearances.

  • Yannick Weber: Signs with Swiss club

Weber agreed to terms on a three-year contract with ZCS Lions (Switzerland) on Tuesday. After appearing in just two games for the Penguins this past season in which he registered four hits, one shot and a minus-3 rating while averaging 11:19 of ice time, Weber will return to his native Switzerland. Selected by the Canadiens in the third round of the 2007 NHL Draft, the blueliner spent 13 years playing in the NHL for Montreal, Vancouver, Nashville and Pittsburgh, garnering 28 goals and 66 assists in 499 games. This likely will mark the end of the 32-year-old's time in the NHL, as he figures to close out his career overseas.

  • Penguins' Yannick Weber: Put on playoff roster

Weber was recalled from the Penguins' taxi squad Sunday. Weber will be on Pittsburgh's expanded postseason roster, as the team's taxi squad will be disbanded with the regular season having come to a close. He appeared in just two regular-season games.

  • Penguins' Yannick Weber: Back to taxi squad

Weber was reassigned to the taxi squad Monday. Weber hasn't appeared in an NHL game since Feb. 1 despite being on the active roster all month. The veteran blueliner isn't likely to play much this season.

  • Penguins' Yannick Weber: Promoted to NHL roster

The Penguins added Weber to their active roster Saturday, Seth Rorabaugh of TribLive.com reports. Pittsburgh's blue-line corps has been decimated by injuries, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Weber make his Penguins debut sooner rather than later. The Switzerland native picked up three points in 41 appearances with Nashville in 2019-20.

  • Penguins' Yannick Weber: Designated for taxi squad

Weber was placed on the taxi squad after he was unable to get to Boston in time for Thursday's contest against the Bruins. Weber was signed by the Penguins following injuries to Brian Dumoulin (lower body), Mike Matheson (upper body) and Marcus Pettersson (upper body). Once the 32-year-old Weber is able to join the Pens in New York for Saturday's matchup with the Rangers, he will likely replace Kevin Czuczman on the active roster and could be in action on the third pairing with Chad Ruhwedel.

  • Penguins' Yannick Weber: Unavailable against Bruins

Weber won't be in the lineup versus Boston on Thursday due to travel complications, Josh Getzoff of PensTV reports. With Brian Dumoulin (lower body) added to the Penguins' growing list of injured defensemen, the team really could have used Weber on Thursday. The 32-year-old Swiss international is expected to link up with the team in New York for two games against the Rangers. In the meantime. Kevin Czuczman figures to be activated off the taxi squad in order to give the Pens a full complement of defenders.

  • Penguins' Yannick Weber: Signs one-year deal

Weber inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Penguins on Wednesday and was subsequently placed on waivers, Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports. Weber was with the Predators during training camp on a PTO but was unable to parlay that into a permanent deal. With the Penguins decimated by injuries on the blue line, including Brian Dumoulin (lower body) who was hurt against Boston on Tuesday, the club finds itself in desperate need of reinforcements. Assuming he clears, Weber should start out on the 23-man roster right away but will no doubt be moved to the taxi squad or minors if Pittsburgh can get some of its defensemen healthy.

  • Yannick Weber: Released from tryout

Weber was cut loose by the Predators on Wednesday, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports. After rejoining Nashville on a professional tryout, Weber apparently wasn't able to convince team brass to bring him back into the fold. With the team's normal AHL affiliate Milwaukee shut down for the year, finding an AHL-only contract could be tricky for the blueliner. At this point, the 32-year-old Weber may have to head overseas in order to continue his professional career. If he doesn't find another NHL deal, he would eventually retire having logged 497 career games for Montreal, Vancouver and Nashville in which he garnered 28 goals, 66 assists and 475 hits.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Lands PTO with Nashville

Weber will attend the Predators' camp on a professional tryout offer, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports. Weber drew into 41 games with Nashville last season, picking up three points while averaging just 14:01 of ice time per contest. It wouldn't be surprising to see the 32-year-old vet earn a two-way deal with the Predators due to his wealth of experience and familiarity with the club, but he'll likely have to settle for a spot on the team's taxi squad.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Watching from press box

Weber served as a healthy scratch for the third straight game Saturday against the Avalanche. With the arrival of Dante Fabbro and Jarred Tinordi this season, Weber is currently the odd man out on the Preds' blue line. We expect he will likely get the odd spot start here and there down the stretch, but his days as an everyday player in the NHL are likely over.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Not seeing much game action

Weber saw ice time of just 8:10 in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Oilers. Ouch. For a guy who's been averaging close to 14 minutes a game this season, the Preds' coaching staff is clearly not showing a lot of confidence in the 31-year-old blueliner right now. Either way, Weber has not cracked double digits in points for the past four seasons, and he is no threat to do so this year, either. He has virtually no fantasy value outside of ultra-deep leagues.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Registers rare assist

Weber picked up an assist, three shots on goal, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Oilers. Weber earned the secondary helper on Colin Blackwell's first-period goal. The Swiss defenseman has just two helpers, 30 shots, 22 hits and 19 blocks in 26 games this season. He's seen a consistent role recently due to Ryan Ellis' upper-body injury suffered in the Winter Classic versus the Stars. That being said, Weber is unlikely to make enough of an impact to interest fantasy owners.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Riding pine

Weber served as a healthy scratch for the fourth consecutive game Monday against the Coyotes. With the arrival of rookie blueliner Dante Fabbro this season, the 31-year-old Weber is essentially fighting to hold down a roster spot this season, currently platooning with Matt Irwin to play opposite Dan Hamhuis on the Preds' third defensive pairing. Now with just a single assist in 19 games, Weber's fantasy value is hovering dangerously close to zero in all formats.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Picks up first point of 2019-20

Weber recorded an assist and two PIM in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Devils. Weber skated under 10 minutes for the third time this season. The little-used blueliner has produced just the single assist, 12 hits, nine blocked shots and 11 shots on goal through 16 games this season. He hasn't topped 10 points since 2014-15 -- feel free to avoid the 31-year-old in fantasy.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Offense non-existent

Weber skated in his second consecutive game Saturday against the Panthers following a six-game stint as a healthy scratch. He skated just 11:46 with one hit and two shots on goal. Still looking for his first point of the season, the last time the 31-year-old blueliner cracked double digits in points was five seasons ago (2014-15) while with the Canucks. In short, he doesn't score enough -- or even play enough -- to warrant any real fantasy consideration.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Watching from press box

Weber sat out his fourth straight game as a healthy scratch Thursday against the Flames. Weber continues to platoon with Dan Hamhuis and Matt Irwin for a spot on the team's third defensive pairing. He has not cracked double digits in points since the 2014-15 season when he played for the Canucks, and won't have any fantasy value in 2019-20.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Still looking for first point

Weber played his seventh consecutive game without a point in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Coyotes. This should not come as a surprise, as the 31-year-old blueliner has recorded fewer than 10 points in each of the last four seasons. Being more the stay-at-home type, you should be used to seeing Weber go long stretches without cracking the scoresheet. His fantasy value continues to hover dangerously close to zero in most formats.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Scratched Saturday

Weber sat out Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Blue Jackets as a healthy scratch. Weber took a seat on the bench to make room for rookie Dante Fabbro, who was making his NHL debut against the Jackets. Looking ahead, it's possible you will see a brief platoon situation develop between Weber, Fabbro and Matt Irwin over the final few games of the regular season, but you should expect to see Weber play the majority of games opposite Dan Hamhuis on the Preds' third defensive pairing once the playoffs start.

  • Predators' Yannick Weber: Limited in return

Weber (upper body) skated 8:48 in a 5-3 loss to the Hurricanes on Saturday. The ice time was 3:25 less than his season average entering the contest. The Predators are known for using their third pairing sparingly, but this was the fourth-lowest amount Weber has skated in 54 appearances this year.
