Top Zach Hyman News

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Heating up in December

Hyman generated a goal and an assist in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over the Bruins.

Hyman jumpstarted the comeback for Edmonton by scoring his 11th goal of the season at 11:17 of the second period, and he set up Connor McDavid's game-tying goal in the final frame. Hyman added two shots, three hits, one takeaway and a plus-2 rating to round out an impactful fantasy performance. The right-shot winger seems to have found his game lately -- he's scored in four straight contests and produced eight goals and an assist through seven outings in December. Hyman had just three goals through the first two months of 2024-25, so his early-season struggles appear to be in the rearview. The 32-year-old has accounted for 11 goals (three game-winners), 17 points and a plus-7 rating through 27 appearances.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Two more tallies Monday

Hyman scored two goals on a team-high six shots on net in Monday's 6-5 loss to the Panthers.

The veteran winger has been locked in since returning from an undisclosed injury in early December. Hyman has found the back of the net in five of his last six games, collecting seven tallies in total during that stretch, and he's up to 10 goals and 15 points in 26 appearances this season. As long as Hyman remains on a line with Connor McDavid, who assisted on both his goals Monday, he'll be a fantasy asset.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Scores again Saturday

Hyman scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Golden Knights.

Hyman has five goals over five games since he returned from an undisclosed injury. The Oilers have won all of those games -- getting Hyman's finishing touch on track after his absence appears to have done wonders for the team. He's now at eight goals, five helpers, 69 shots on net, 23 hits and a plus-5 rating over 25 appearances this season.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Extends solid run

Hyman netted a power-play goal in Thursday's 7-1 win over the Wild.

Hyman missed five games between Nov. 21 and Dec. 3 due to an undisclosed injury, but the winger has been excellent since returning to the ice against the Blue Jackets on Dec. 5. The 32-year-old has four goals over four appearances since returning to game action, and two of those goals have come with the man advantage. He's up to seven goals and 12 points across 24 appearances this season.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Buries power-play goal

Hyman scored a power-play goal on six shots in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Blues.

Hyman received a threaded pass from Connor McDavid and made no mistake, putting the Oilers ahead 3-0 at 14:37 of the second period. Hyman has three goals over two contests since returning from an undisclosed injury. The 32-year-old winger is up to six tallies, 11 points (four on the power play), 62 shots on net, 19 hits and a plus-3 rating over 22 appearances. He continues to skate on the first line and top power-play unit, and his play since his return from injury is a good sign that his season is heading in the right direction following a troublesome start.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Scores two goals in return

Hyman scored twice on five shots and went plus-3 in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Blue Jackets.

Hyman missed the last five games due to an undisclosed injury. He returned with his first multi-goal effort of the campaign, and his first goals at all since Nov. 6. The 32-year-old winger is up to five tallies, 10 points, 56 shots on net, 19 hits, 12 PIM and a plus-3 rating over 21 appearances. A repeat of his 54-goal, 77-point regular season from 2023-24 is unlikely, but Hyman should be able to provide high-end offense now that the Oilers look to be past their struggles from earlier in the campaign.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Ready to rock

Hyman (undisclosed) will return to the lineup Thursday versus Columbus, Tony Brar of Oilers TV reports.

Hyman will play on the top line alongside Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and will also see first power-play time. Hyman has struggled this season with only three goals and five assists over 20 contests after striking for a career-high 54 goals in 2023-24. Despite his slow start, he's still worth starting in most fantasy formats.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Won't play Tuesday

Hyman (undisclosed) will not be an option for Tuesday's divisional showdown against the Golden Knights, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports.

Hyman will miss his fifth consecutive contest due to the injury. The right-shot winger was reported as being 5-8 days away from a return to the lineup Nov. 25, so he could be an option for Thursday's game against Columbus if his timeline hasn't changed. Kasperi Kapanen will likely continue to fill a top-six role in place of Hyman.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Still not ready to play

Hyman (undisclosed) remains 5-8 days away from returning to the lineup, Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton reports Monday.

Based on Hyman's timeline, he figures to miss the Oilers' next two contests at a minimum. Considering the 32-year-old winger has already missed a pair of contests due to his undisclosed injury, he could be a candidate for injured reserve if the team decides it needs the extra roster spot. With Viktor Arvidsson (undisclosed) also sidelined, the Oilers will likely need to bring a forward up from AHL Bakersfield. Drake Caggiula was sent down Saturday, but that's likely for cap savings during a five-day gap between games for the Oilers.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Likely out 4-7 days

Head coach Kris Knoblauch said Thursday that he expects Hyman (undisclosed) to miss 4-7 days, Tony Brar of Oilers TV reports.

Hyman had already been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Wild, and he'll presumably miss Saturday's matchup against the Rangers as well. However, the Oilers have a sizable layoff before facing Utah on Nov. 29, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Hyman back on the ice late next week.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Won't play versus Wild

Hyman (undisclosed) will be out of action against Minnesota on Thursday, Tony Brar of Oilers TV reports.

Hyman will miss out Thursday while mired in a six-game goal drought during which he put 15 shots on net. After putting up 77 points in 80 regular-season games last year, Hyman is struggling to produce at that level in 2024-25 and is currently on pace to barely break the 30-point threshold. An extended injury absence certainly won't improve his chances of stringing together points.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Does not play in third period

Hyman (undisclosed) did not play in the third period of a 5-2 win over Ottawa.

An awkward hit near the blue line caused Hyman to wince and move somewhat gingerly. It was almost as though he torqued something in his torso. We'll find out Wednesday or the next day. Vasily Podkolzin had already replaced Hyman on the top line with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, and that will continue if Hyman can't go.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Sends power-play helper

Hyman logged a power-play assist, two shots on goal and two PIM in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs.

Hyman had been held off the scoresheet in the previous two games. The 32-year-old winger's inconsistent start to the year may have scared off some fantasy managers, but he's still seeing top-six minutes in an offense that's starting to find its groove. He's now at three goals, five helpers, 45 shots on net, 18 hits, 12 PIM and a plus-3 rating over 18 contests. Hyman might have been due for regression after shooting 18.6 percent last season, but he's better than the 6.7 percent conversion rate he's had in 2024-25.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Picks up two assists

Hyman notched two assists and two shots on goal in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Canucks.

In Saturday's contest, Hyman set up goals by Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid ( on the power play). Hyman's two multi-point efforts this season have come over the last four games. The winger is up to three goals, four assists, 38 shots on net, 16 hits, 10 PIM and a plus-3 rating over 15 outings this season. He started slow, but he's looking more like himself now, and his spot in a potentially dangerous offense makes Hyman a must-start in fantasy as long as he avoids another prolonged slump.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Cashes in on fortunate bounce

Hyman scored a goal and added seven hits in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Golden Knights.

Hyman was able to read a bounce off the end boards and cash in for the Oilers' second tally. He's picked up four points over the last four games, with all three of his goals this season coming in that span. The winger is at five points, 36 shots on net, 16 hits, 10 PIM and a plus-3 rating through 14 contests. His early misfortune is starting to turn around, so Hyman should be capable of steady offense in a top-six role, especially once the Oilers solve their power-play problems.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Two points in Sunday's win

Hyman scored a power-play goal on three shots and added an assist in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Flames.

Hyman deked around Dan Vladar and roofed a backhand from in close to restore the Oilers' lead at 10:10 of the third period. This was Hyman's second game in a row with a goal and his first multi-point effort of the season. Those are signs he's thawing out after an ice-cold start. The winger has four points, 33 shots on net, nine hits, eight PIM and a plus-7 rating through 12 contests this season.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Pots goal in win

Hyman scored a goal on two shots and went plus-3 in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Predators.

Hyman had the last goal of the game, which was his first tally this season. Both of his points have come over the last four contests. Hyman has added 30 shots on net, eight hits, eight PIM and a plus-6 rating. Given his shot volume is down only marginally compared to last year and his ice time remains steady, the 32-year-old winger should be capable of turning things around. That said, he'll likely be impacted by the absence of his regular center, Connor McDavid (ankle), who is out for 2-3 weeks.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Generates assist in win

Hyman logged an assist and six shots on goal in Friday's 4-0 win over the Penguins.

Hyman set up Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' goal 16 seconds into the third period. The helper was Hyman's first point in eight games this season. It's fair to say the winger has been vastly unlucky -- he has 23 shots on net but has yet to score, though some of that is regression from him shooting 18.6 percent during his 54-goal campaign in 2023-24. Hyman has maintained a top-line role and power-play time, and given the talent around him and his ability to play near the front of the net, he should get on track eventually.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Stuck on zero points

Hyman has not recorded a point over the Oilers' first six games.

Part of Hyman's slow start stems from the Oilers' shaky offense and unusual lack of power-play success. He's produced 14 shots on net, five hits, four PIM and a minus-1 rating, but the winger never went more than three games without a point during the regular season and playoffs in 2023-24. The good news is he's still averaging 19:42 of ice time per game, including 3:53 on the power play, so he remains in a position to turn things around. Just don't expect a repeat of last year's 54-goal regular season.
