Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev: Done for season
Tanev underwent core muscle surgery Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign.
Tanev should be ready for training camp in September. His six-year, $27 million contract runs through 2029-30 and comes with a no-movement clause, so it's fair to believe he'll still be a member of the Leafs for the 2026-27 season. The 36-year-old defenseman will complete 2025-26 with two assists, eight shots, two hits and 15 blocks in only 11 appearances.

Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev: Out indefinitely
Tanev (groin) is expected to miss a significant amount of time, according to Jonas Siegel of The Athletic on Wednesday.
Tanev sat out Tuesday's 4-0 win over New Jersey, and an exact timeline for his return is unclear. He has provided two assists, eight shots on goal, 15 blocked shots and two hits while being limited to only 11 appearances this season. With Tanev unavailable, Simon Benoit could play regularly again after being a healthy scratch for three straight games before his return to the lineup against the Devils on Tuesday.

Tanev (lower body) was put on injured reserve Tuesday, per the NHL media site.
Tanev will miss at least the next three games after landing on the IR list, beginning with Tuesday's matchup against New Jersey. However, it's unclear when he will be ready to return. Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev: Not playing Tuesday
Tanev (lower body) isn't available for Tuesday's home matchup versus New Jersey.
Tanev returned to the lineup Dec. 23 following a long layoff, and he'll now miss at least one more game. Simon Benoit will reenter the lineup Tuesday as a result of Tanev's absence. Toronto's next game is at home Thursday versus Winnipeg.

Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev: Playing against Pens
Tanev (upper body) will be in the lineup versus Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports.
With Tanev back in action, Philippe Myers will likely be relegated to a spot in the press box as a healthy scratch while Henry Thrun figures to head back to the minors. Prior to getting hurt, Tanev had recorded two assists, six shots and eight blocks in eight outings. Given his offensive limitations and lack of hits, Tanev is unlikely to offer more than mid-range fantasy value at best.

Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev: Sporting regular sweater
Tanev (upper body) practiced in a regular jersey Monday, Claire Hanna of TSN reports, indicating he's been cleared for contact.
Tanev may be hard-pressed to immediately return to the lineup versus the Blackhawks on Tuesday, but he certainly seems to be trending in the right direction. In his eight outings this year, the veteran blueliner has notched two assists, eight blocked shots and six shots on net. While the Toronto native generates plenty of blocks, he doesn't offer enough physicality or offensive upside to be more than a low-end fantasy target.

Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev: Getting second opinion
Tanev will seek a second opinion for his upper-body issue, Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun reports Friday.
The news doesn't provide much clarity regarding Tanev's eventual return to action, but fantasy players should probably expect the blueliner to miss at least another week, if not longer. The Leafs should be getting some reinforcements on the blue line in the form of Marshall Rifai (wrist). Still, Tanev's continued absence doesn't bode well for the team's ability to limit opportunities in front of the netminders.

Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev: Out at least one more week
Tanev (upper body) will be sidelined for at least another week after general manager Brad Trevling told reporters Tuesday, "Probably will know more in the next week or so," Mark Masters of TSN reports.
Tanev has started to get in some work with the team, but it appears he is still a little way off from returning. When healthy, the blueliner has offered minimal offensive upside, generating two helpers in eight outings. As such, few fantasy players will be anxiously awaiting his return to action.

Tane (upper body) was back skating Saturday, Mark Masters of TSN reports.

The veteran defenseman is eligible to return from injured reserve Saturday against the Bruins, but will likely need to sit out a bit longer. Tanev has two assists in eight games this season.

Tanev (concussion) is expected to play Saturday in Philadelphia, Luke Fox of Sportsnet reports Friday.

Head coach Craig Berube said Wednesday that Tanev (upper body) is feeling better but is questionable for Friday's game against the Sabres, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.
Tanev exited Tuesday's game against the Devils due to an upper-body injury, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be forced to miss additional time. If Tanev is held out Friday or Saturday against Buffalo, Philippe Myers is a candidate to enter the lineup.
