Brandsegg-Nygard was summoned from AHL Grand Rapids on an emergency basis Saturday.
The recall comes after Dylan Larkin (leg) sustained an injury in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Panthers. Brandsegg-Nygard has one assist in nine NHL games this season. He has excelled at the AHL level with 16 goals and 21 assists in 50 games as a 19-year-old. Brandsegg-Nygard was selected 15th overall by the Red Wings in 2024 and has six goals and nine points in his last five AHL contests.

The Norwegian forward will likely get a chance to compete for a roster spot in Detroit next season, and he could help his own cause by keeping up this strong run of play into the AHL playoffs.

Red Wings' Michael Brandsegg-Nygard: Sent to minors
Brandsegg-Nygard was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Monday.
Brandsegg-Nygard has played in all nine games for the Red Wings this season, producing one assist, 14 shots and 28 hits, but he has yet to find the back of the net. The decision to send the youngster to the minors could open the door for Austin Watson or John Leonard to be recalled in his place to serve as the team's emergency depth option at forward.

Red Wings' Michael Brandsegg-Nygard: Picks up first career assist
Brandsegg-Nygard registered an assist and five hits in Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Islanders.
The helper was Brandsegg-Nygard's first career point in the NHL. The 20-year-old has added 14 shots on net, 26 hits and a minus-4 rating over eight games. He's filling a third-line role in his first taste of NHL action, but he'll need to work on his scoring touch to become a fantasy option in redraft formats. Managers in dynasty leagues can continue to hold onto the Norwegian winger throughout his development process.

Red Wings' Michael Brandsegg-Nygard: Registers two shots in debut
Brandsegg-Nygard recorded two shots in his NHL debut during Thursday's 5-1 loss to Montreal.
Brandsegg-Nygard also had a minus-2 rating in 14:34 of ice time. Selected with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, Brandsegg-Nygard spent most of 2024-25 with Skelleftea of the Swedish Hockey League, recording 11 points and 51 PIM across 42 regular-season appearances, followed by six points and 12 PIM over 11 playoff outings. The 20-year-old made this year's Red Wings' squad out of training camp, and his current role involves middle-six duties along with a spot on the second power-play unit. He probably won't put up major offensive numbers this year, but his blend of skill and grit might give him enough versatility to be of interest to some fantasy managers if Brandsegg-Nygard maintains his current role with Detroit.

Red Wings' Michael Brandsegg-Nygard: Holding his own in Sweden
Brandsegg-Nygard has five goals and 11 points in 31 appearances with SHL Skelleftea this season.
Those offensive numbers might not jump out as being impressive, but keep in mind that Brandsegg-Nygard is a 19-year-old playing in a men's pro league. He's the youngest player to record at least one point with Skelleftea this campaign. Brandsegg-Nygard likely still needs time to develop, so it'll be difficult for him to make the jump to the NHL next season, but he does have the potential to become a solid winger for the Red Wings in the years to come. Detroit selected him with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, which makes him the highest Norway-born player.
