  • Oilers' Evan Bouchard: Three of each in overtime win

Bouchard scored three goals on eight shots, added three assists, went plus-5 and blocked two shots in Saturday's 6-5 overtime win over the Capitals. It marked the 24th performance of at least six points by a defenseman in NHL history, and the fourth time an Oilers blueliner has reached that mark. Paul Coffey did it twice, and Kevin Lowe did it once. It was easily the best game of Bouchard's 400 career regular-season outings. He has racked up seven goals and 11 assists over 12 contests in January, and he's up to 14 goals, 55 points, 142 shots on net, 73 blocked shots and a plus-9 rating through 53 appearances this season. Bouchard's defense sometimes gives the Edmonton faithful fits, but games like Saturday are a great reminder of why it's easier to root for him in fantasy.

  • Oilers' Evan Bouchard: Lights the lamp twice Monday

Bouchard scored two goals, tallied an assist and fired four shots on net in Monday's 4-1 win over the Blackhawks. Bouchard scored just 16 seconds into the second period before finding the empty cage near the end of the third to secure the win. He also picked up a helper on Zach Hyman's goal in the first period. With the pair of twine finders, Bouchard is up to 11 goals, 35 assists, 116 shots on net and 67 blocks through 46 games this season. Since Team Canada announced its roster for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympic Games, which didn't include Bouchard, he has nine points, 13 shots on goal and eight blocks in five games. Regardless of his Olympic status, his strong start to the calendar year is turning heads, as he now ranks third among all defensemen in points this season. At his current pace, he could reach the 80-point threshold by the end of the regular season for the second time in his career. He still has an outside shot to win the Norris Trophy, and he's worth mentioning alongside the best playmaking defensemen in the league.

The defenseman is up to eight goals, 38 points (14 on the power play), 107 shots on net, 59 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating across 42 appearances this season. He's now at six goals, 32 points (11 on the power play), 86 shots on net, 44 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating through 34 appearances. However, it was another game to forget in his own zone, as he was on the ice for all three of Seattle's goals. Bouchard is at three points, 30 shots on net, 15 blocked shots and a minus-10 rating through nine contests. The Oilers' 5-on-5 struggles are part of the problem here, but Bouchard typically can generate enough offense to make up for his defensive lapses -- that just hasn't been the case early in 2025-26.

The 25-year-old Bouchard has missed just two games over the past four seasons, showing strong durability along with plenty of offensive upside. With his role on the Oilers' No. 1 power-play unit, Bouchard should continue to offer elite-level fantasy value.
