Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Suspect goals lead to loss
Rotowire
Woll made 20 saves on 23 shots in a 4-2 loss to St. Louis on Saturday. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.
He was OK, but he allowed two goals on point shots that should generally be stoppable for NHL goalies. Woll has talent but needs to establish consistency before fantasy managers can rely on him. After returning from an early-season groin issue, he allowed seven goals in two losses to the Blue and had a brilliant win over the Kraken on Thursday.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Bounces back Thursday
Rotowire
Woll made 24 saves in a 4-1 win over Seattle on Thursday.
It was a strong outing for Woll -- he came within 3:28 of a shutout, but Eeli Tolvanen put it past his blocker while on a 6-on-5 advantage with Joey Daccord on the bench. It was a nice bounce back from his 5-1 loss to St. Louis on Oct. 24 and could warrant a start in the Leafs' next game, a revenge match against St. Louis on Saturday. If not, Woll will be in net on Sunday, as Toronto plays Minnesota in a back-to-back.

Rotowire
Woll will serve as the starting goaltender for Thursday's home game against the Kraken, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
Woll made his season debut at home against the Blues last Thursday and took the loss while allowing four goals on 26 shots. While Anthony Stolarz has performed well early in the 2024-25 campaign, Woll will get a chance to bounce back in his second start of the season Thursday.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Rough night in season debut
Rotowire
Woll (lower body) made 22 saves Thursday in a 5-1 loss to the Blues.
It was Woll's first game of the season after missing seven games to groin tightness, and he looked rusty. He was out of shape and angle at times, and he didn't track the puck well. Woll even told reporters after the game that he'd like to have at least two of the goals back. Watch for him to be eased into action given the strength of Anthony Stolarz to begin to the season. Woll and Stolarz will likely end up splitting starts, but right now, the Leafs will likely go with the hot hand more often than not.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Placed on injured reserve
Rotowire
Woll (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, per the NHL media site.
Woll's placement on IR is somewhat surprising, as he was still in contention to get the starting nod versus New Jersey on Thursday. However, he'll be forced to miss at least a week and won't be eligible to return until at least Oct. 16, when the Maple Leafs face off against the Kings. In Woll's absence, Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby should see increased playing time.

Rotowire
Woll is dealing with lower-body tightness and won't play on the road against Montreal on Wednesday, per David Alter of The Hockey News.
Anthony Stolarz is set to start versus the Canadiens while Dennis Hildeby has been summoned from AHL Toronto and will serve as the backup. Woll might still be an option for Thursday's road game against New Jersey, according to Mark Masters of TSN. When healthy, the 26-year-old Woll will likely be the Maple Leafs' No. 1 goaltender this campaign. He had a 12-11-1 record, 2.93 GAA and .907 save percentage across 25 regular-season outings in 2023-24.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Plays whole game for first time
Rotowire
Woll made 18 saves in a 3-2 win over the Red Wings on Saturday in preseason action.
He played the whole game, and his best came during a five-on-three power play for the Red Wings in the first period. Woll had played only 31:45 in the previous five preseason games, with no explanation from new head coach Craig Berube on the reason. Woll is set to share the crease with newcomer Anthony Stolarz in 2024-25. Still, Woll's talent level should shine through and force more starts as long as he stays healthy.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Suffered back injury
Rotowire
Woll sustained a back injury in Game 6 of the first round against the Bruins that resulted in him missing Game 7 on Saturday, ESPN's Kristen Shilton reports.
Woll was riding a two-game winning streak when he suffered his back injury. There's been no indication that the 25-year-old backstop won't be ready for the start of training camp in the fall, which could see him challenging for the No. 1 role heading into 2024-25.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Forces Game 7
Rotowire
Woll stopped 22 of 23 shots in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Bruins in Game 6.
Woll has won back-to-back starts, stopping 49 of 51 shots in that span. The 25-year-old nearly had his first postseason shutout Thursday, but a Morgan Geekie goal in the final second spoiled it. Woll is almost certain to start Saturday's Game 7 in Boston after pulling the Maple Leafs back from the brink following Ilya Samsonov's poor start to the series.

Woll has been sensational versus the Bruins in the postseason, giving up one goal on 28 shots in a 2-1 overtime win Tuesday in Game 5. He also stopped all five shots he faced in Game 4 after replacing Ilya Samsonov to start the third period. Woll has seen action in just 36 regular-season games in his NHL career, but he looked like a seasoned veteran while prevailing over the Bruins on Tuesday.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Solid in relief outing
Rotowire
Woll stopped all five shots he faced in relief of Ilya Samsonov in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Bruins in Game 4.
Woll played the third period and prevented the score from getting any worse. This was his first playoff action in 2024 after he got into four contests during last year's postseason. Woll went 12-11-1 with a 2.93 GAA and a .907 save percentage over 25 regular-season appearances. The Maple Leafs have not announced their starting goalie for Game 5 on Tuesday yet, but it wouldn't be a shock if Woll got the nod since Samsonov has struggled against the Bruins.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Game still work in progress
Rotowire
Woll made 18 saves in a 5-2 win over New Jersey on Tuesday.
Woll's game remains a work in progress since his return from injury. Ilya Samsonov has been strong and is the top dog heading into the postseason. Woll remains the Leafs' future and could be in the net during the playoffs if Samsonov hits a speed wobble.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Not really tested in win
Rotowire
Woll made 23 saves in a 5-1 win over the Capitals on Thursday.
Woll was good, but not spectacular. But he didn't need to be. The Leafs overwhelmed the Caps with their speed and that made Woll's job easy. He needs to build up game stamina as the Leafs approach the postseason, but it remains to be seen how coach Sheldon Keefe will deploy Ilya Samsonov (calf) and Woll over the last 10 games or so of the regular season.

Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Gives up five goals
Rotowire
Woll stopped 19 of 24 shots in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Devils. The sixth goal was an empty-netter.
The goaltending for the Maple Leafs has been a struggle and Woll did not make it any better. After a strong showing Sunday, in which he posted a .943 save percentage, he faced fewer shots on the night between the two goalies and still allowed five goals. It does not look like Toronto has decided who the No. 1 netminder is as they head into the playoffs, so fantasy managers will have to keep an eye out as the starters are announced for the remainder of the games.

Rotowire

Woll was excellent in his last start Sunday against the Hurricanes, stopping 41 of 43 shots, but he still came away with a loss due to insufficient goal support from his teammates. He'll try to get back in the win column in a home matchup with a Devils team that's averaging 3.26 goals on the road this year, tied for seventh in the NHL.
