Top Blue Jackets News

  • Blue Jackets' William Whitelaw: Three-point effort in WMU win

Whitelaw scored twice and added an assist in Western Michigan University's 6-2 win over the University of Denver on Saturday.

Whitelaw is really on a tear with six points over his last five outings. The winger has 14 goals and nine assists across 22 appearances this season, which is already career-best production just over halfway through the campaign. The Blue Jackets prospect should continue to be a key part of the Broncos' offense as they try to position themselves for a run at a National Championship.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Expected starter for Saturday

Merzlikins is expected to start on the road against Colorado on Saturday, per Aaron Portzline of The Athletic.

Merzlikins has struggled this campaign with a 6-6-1 record, 4.03 GAA and .877 save percentage in 14 appearances. His last start was Dec. 20, and he's allowed at least three goals in each of his past 11 appearances. The Avalanche are a tough assignment, as they rank first in goals per game with 4.05. They did lose back-to-back games Sunday and Tuesday against Florida and Tampa Bay, respectively, but the Avalanche rebounded with an 8-2 victory over Ottawa on Thursday.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Christiansen: Pushed out of lineup

Christiansen was scratched in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Golden Knights.

Christiansen had played in the previous seven games, logging two shots on net, five blocked shots and three hits, but he didn't have a point in that span. The 26-year-old received a chance to play regularly when Brendan Smith (knee) exited the lineup, but the Blue Jackets' signing of Egor Zamula has once again forced Christiansen out of the lineup. Over 26 outings this season, Christiansen has just one assist, 18 shots on net, 18 hits, 12 blocked shots and a minus-9 rating, so it's not like fantasy managers will need to track his usage moving forward.

  • Blue Jackets' Sean Monahan: Provides pair of helpers

Monahan notched two assists in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Golden Knights.

Monahan has three points over two games since he returned from an undisclosed injury. The rest during his four-game absence has likely helped fuel his uptick in production after he battled a nagging injury. The 31-year-old center is now at 22 points, 70 shots on net, 25 hits and a minus-3 rating through 39 contests in 2025-26.

  • Blue Jackets' Kent Johnson: Finds twine in loss

Johnson scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Golden Knights.

Johnson ended a seven-game point drought with the tally. The 23-year-old has moved around the lineup lately, but he was on the second line with 16:41 of ice time Thursday, his highest total since Nov. 26 versus the Maple Leafs. Johnson has fallen far short of expectations created from his 24-goal, 57-point 2024-25 campaign, earning just four goals, eight assists, 63 shots on net, 22 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating through 42 outings this season. He's shooting just 6.3 percent in 2025-26 compared to 19.5 percent last year -- once he can find a middle ground, he should be a much more consistent scorer.

  • Blue Jackets' Kirill Marchenko: Lights lamp in loss

Marchenko scored a goal on four shots and blocked two shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Golden Knights.

Marchenko has six goals and three assists over his last eight outings, getting on the scoresheet in seven of those games. He brought the Blue Jackets back within a goal in the third period, but the comeback push fell short. The 25-year-old winger is up to 16 goals, 35 points, 123 shots on net, 33 hits, 24 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating over 39 appearances, mainly in a top-line role.

  • Blue Jackets' Boone Jenner: Earns two points in loss

Jenner scored a goal on three shots, added an assist and logged three hits in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Golden Knights.

Jenner earned his first multi-point effort since Dec. 16 versus the Ducks. The 32-year-old has picked up two goals and four assists over his last six outings to stay productive in a top-six role. He's now at seven goals, 21 points, 68 shots on net, 66 hits, 28 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over 29 appearances, numbers right in line with what he did in an injury-shortened 2024-25 campaign.

  • Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Performance fading with more work

Greaves stopped 21 of 26 shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Golden Knights.

Greaves took his third straight loss Thursday, and he's allowed 13 goals on 103 shots in that span. He's started eight consecutive games and has appeared in 14 of Columbus' last 15 contests, so the heavy workload looks to be catching up to him. Greaves is down to 12-12-6 with a 2.74 GAA and a .907 save percentage in 30 outings this season. The 24-year-old is still a better option in goal than Elvis Merzlikins, but head coach Dean Evason may want to build in some rest for Greaves. Both goalies should get a start in a weekend back-to-back featuring games in Colorado on Saturday and Utah on Sunday.

  • Blue Jackets' Luca Marrelli: Activated, reassigned Thursday

Marrelli (shoulder) was taken off non-roster injured reserve and sent down to AHL Cleveland on Thursday.

Marrelli was injured during the preseason but should now be ready to suit up in the minors. The 20-year-old blueliner has yet to make his debut and may be hard-pressed to see significant action at the NHL level even with his injury woes behind him.

  • Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Starting against Vegas

Greaves will start Thursday's road game against Vegas, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.

Greaves is in the midst of a slightly cold stretch in which he's gone 1-2-1 with a 3.00 GAA and .916 save percentage over his last four starts. However, he'll draw an eighth consecutive start in Thursday's matchup. During a home start against the Golden Knights on Dec. 13, he turned aside 23 of 26 shots (.885 save percentage) en route to a 3-2 loss.

  • Blue Jackets' Brendan Smith: Undergoes surgery

Smith underwent successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee Tuesday and is expected to make a full recovery in 3-4 months.

Smith suffered his injury during the Blue Jackets' Dec. 29 win over Ottawa, and he was placed on injured reserve Friday. His return timetable signals that he'll likely be sidelined until at least early April, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Blue Jackets shut him down for the remainder of the year, especially since the team is currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

  • Blue Jackets' Mason Marchment: On injured reserve

Marchment (upper body) has been placed on injured reserve Wednesday.

Marchment will miss at least the next three games as a result of this move -- the Blue Jackets will play in Vegas, Colorado and Utah on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. He has nine goals and 20 points in 36 appearances between Seattle and Columbus in the 2025-26 campaign. The Blue Jackets summoned Mikael Pyyhtia from AHL Cleveland in a corresponding move. Pyyhtia will provide the team with some roster flexibility and enable the Blue Jackets to plug a hole if another forward gets hurt.

  • Blue Jackets' Dysin Mayo: Lands on waivers

Mayo was designated for waivers by the Blue Jackets on Wednesday.

Mayo has played on only two occasions over his 21 games on the NHL roster, recording one assist, four shots and one block while averaging a mere 8:34 of ice time. Assuming the blueliner clears waivers, he will likely spend the bulk of the rest of the year in the minors, especially after the Blue Jackets added Egor Zamula as an unrestricted free agent.

  • Blue Jackets' Mikael Pyyhtia: Promoted to NHL roster

Pyyhtia was called up from AHL Cleveland on Wednesday.

Pyyhtia saw action in 47 regular-season games last year, generating four goals, three assists and 25 hits while averaging 12:06 of ice time. Even with his promotion to the NHL roster, the winger is far from a lock to play and would need to edge out the likes of Zach Aston-Reese, Brendan Gaunce or Danton Heinen.

  • Blue Jackets' Sean Monahan: Scores in return

Monahan scored a goal on four shots in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Sharks.

Monahan missed four games due to an undisclosed injury, which is believed to be stemming from something he's been playing through for most of the campaign. In his first contest back, he snapped an 11-game goal drought. Monahan has struggled a bit this year with six goals, 20 points, 69 shots on net, 24 hits and a minus-4 rating over 38 appearances, but it makes sense that his production is down since he's been at less than 100 percent. He'll likely handle middle-six minutes moving forward as long as he can avoid aggravating the injury.

  • Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Nets goal Tuesday

Werenski scored a goal on two shots and went minus-3 in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Sharks.

Werenski has gotten on the scoresheet in eight straight outings (seven goals, eight assists), with only a lower-body injury slowing him down by sidelining him for four games during that span. The 28-year-old defenseman continues to be one of the absolute best from the blue line while working massive minutes for the Blue Jackets. Werenski is at 16 goals, 45 points, 141 shots on net, 54 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating through 38 appearances.
