Devils' Evgenii Dadonov: Pots first goal of season
Dadonov scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Hurricanes.
The tally came in the final minute of the third period as Carolina took its foot off the gas. Dadonov had gone without a point in his first 19 games this season, and the 37-year-old even got placed on waivers early this month only to go unclaimed. The five-time 20-goal scorer in the NHL will try to salvage something down the stretch on what has been a lost campaign.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Blown away by Hurricanes
Markstrom stopped 29 of 33 shots in Saturday's 5-2 loss to Carolina, with the Hurricanes' final tally getting scored into an empty net.
The Devils got out-shot 34-19 in the game, but they managed to emerge from the first period with a 1-0 lead before the home side took control. Markstrom saw his three-start win streak snapped, but it was just the second time in 11 outings since the Olympic break that he's given up more than three goals, a stretch in which he's gone 7-4-0 with a 2.81 GAA and .889 save percentage.

Devils' Topias Vilen: Earns three assists in win
Vilen notched three assists in AHL Utica's 5-3 win over Cleveland on Saturday.
Vilen's production has been steady compared to last year -- he has 24 points in 57 games this season, the same total he logged in more games in the 2024-25 regular season. He has gone nine contests without a goal, but he's earned six helpers in that span. The Devils' blue line is still a strength at the NHL level, giving Vilen plenty of time to continue his development with Utica.

Schmelzer scored a goal and added two assists in AHL Utica's 5-3 win over Cleveland on Saturday.
Schmelzer, the Comets' captain, hasn't done much on offense this season. He has been held to 22 points (three goals, 19 assists) over 57 appearances this season after logging 44 points in 72 regular-season games last year. At this point in his career, the 32-year-old Schmelzer is just an AHL veteran and is unlikely to see much time, if any, at the NHL level.

Hischier has scored at least two goals in two of his last six games, as he also delivered two goals in the 6-4 win over the Kings on March 14, and he's riding one of his most productive stretches of the campaign. Markstrom returned to the lineup after not playing in New Jersey's last two games and didn't miss a beat, allowing three or fewer goals for the third game in a row to keep his winning streak alive. The 36-year-old veteran, who is firmly established as the Devils' No. 1 goaltender ahead of Jake Allen, has won seven of his last nine games, going 7-2-0 with a 2.64 GAA and an .886 save percentage over that stretch. The win total is nice, but the peripherals indicate the veteran hasn't looked nearly as good as his record indicates. He should continue to be a reliable option between the posts, though.
