Devils' Brett Pesce: Deemed day-to-day
Pesce is considered day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Tuesday.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe didn't seem too concerned about the availability of Pesce or Timo Meier (back), telling reporters, "The break has been very important. We'll take advantage of this time and see where they're at tomorrow." If Pesce were to miss any time, it would open up a spot on the blue line for Nick DeSimone, who has yet to get into an NHL game this season despite being called up twice in November.

Devils' Timo Meier: Dealing with back problem
Meier was not on the ice Tuesday while suffering from back spasms, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Meier's absence, along with the placement of Nathan Bastian (jaw) on long-term injured reserve, would explain the Devils' decision to bring up three forward from the minors Monday. At this point, Meier should be considered questionable to face the Hurricanes on Thursday, though he does have some time to get back to 100 percent.

Devils' Nolan Foote: Brought up from minors
Foote was summoned from AHL Utica on Monday.
Foote has four goals and nine points in 12 minor-league outings this season. In corresponding moves, the Devils moved Curtis Lazar (knee) and Nathan Bastian (jaw) to IR and LTIR, respectively. In addition to Foote, New Jersey recalled Shane Bowers, Justin Dowling and Nick DeSimone from the AHL on Monday.

Devils' Nick DeSimone: Called back up
DeSimone was recalled from AHL Utica on Monday.
DeSimone spent over a week with the Devils before being assigned to Utica on Sunday, but he didn't appear in any games during that stint in the NHL. He'll rejoin the Devils a day after being sent down, but it seems likely that he'll continue to serve mainly as a seventh defender.

Devils' Nathan Bastian: Moves to LTIR
Bastian (jaw) was put on long-term injured reserve Monday.
Bastian sustained a jaw injury in a 3-0 loss to Calgary on Nov. 1, meaning he won't be eligible to return until at least Nov. 27 versus the Blues. He has two goals, five points, 11 shots on net, seven blocked shots and 19 hits through 12 outings this season. On Monday, the Devils also moved Curtis Lazar (knee) to injured reserve while recalling Shane Bowers, Justin Dowling, Nolan Foote and Nick DeSimone from AHL Utica.

Devils' Justin Dowling: Rejoining NHL club
Dowling was recalled from AHL Utica on Monday.
Dowling was loaned to the minor-league club Sunday, but he'll rejoin New Jersey a day later. Nathan Bastian (jaw) was placed on long-term injured reserve while Curtis Lazar (knee) landed on IR on Monday, so Dowling could continue to serve in a bottom-six role for the Devils. Over nine NHL appearances this year, he's logged an assist and 11 hits while averaging 8:13 of ice time.

Devils' Shane Bowers: Recalled by New Jersey
Bowers was recalled from AHL Utica on Monday.
Bowers made just eight appearances for the Devils last year and averaged 9:27 of ice time, so it seems unlikely that he'll have a significant role during his current stint with the NHL club. However, he should provide additional depth for New Jersey while Nathan Bastian (jaw) and Curtis Lazar (knee) are sidelined.

Devils' Curtis Lazar: Lands on injured reserve
Lazar (knee) was placed on injured reserve Monday, retroactive to Oct. 27.
Lazar had already been ruled out indefinitely after undergoing a knee procedure at the end of October, so his move to injured reserve isn't particularly surprising. The Devils recalled Shane Bowers, Justin Dowling and Nolan Foote from AHL Utica on Monday, and they should help provide additional depth while Lazar is unavailable.

Devils' Nick DeSimone: Dropped to minors
DeSimone was assigned to AHL Utica on Sunday.
DeSimone has been a healthy scratch in six straight games while serving as the Devils' seventh defender. He could return to the NHL before Thursday's contest against Carolina. DeSimone has two assists in nine minor-league outings this season.

Devils' Justin Dowling: Sent to AHL
Dowling was loaned to AHL Utica on Sunday.
Dowling has earned one assist, five shots on net and 11 hits through nine NHL appearances this season. He had been playing due to the extended absences of Curtis Lazar (knee) and Nathan Bastian (jaw), but New Jersey is off until Thursday versus Carolina. It won't be surprising if Dowling returns to a bottom-six role against the Hurricanes.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Loses tight match
Markstrom made 23 saves in a 4-0 loss to the Lightning on Saturday. He allowed three goals.
Markstrom kept his team in the game -- the Devils were down just 1-0 through two frames. In the third, the Bolts notched a power-play goal and a sharp one-timer that caught Markstrom moving before being awarded an empty-net goal after Luke Hughes threw his stick in front of Anthony Cirelli during a breakaway. The loss snapped Markstrom's three-game winning streak. Goaltending was the missing link for the Devils last season, and the 34-year-old native of Sweden has plugged that hole with eight wins, one shutout, a 2.58 GAA and a .907 save percentage.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Back in goal Saturday
Markstrom will guard the road net Saturday in Tampa Bay, Devils play-by-play announcer Matt Loughlin reports.
Markstrom will carry a three-game winning streak into Saturday's outing, including an impressive 34-save effort in a 4-1 road win over the Panthers on Tuesday. He has posted an 8-4-1 record with a .908 save percentage and a 2.54 GAA this season.

Devils' Luke Hughes: Secures assist Thursday
Hughes notched an assist and three shots on goal in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Panthers.
Hughes set up a Stefan Noesen tally midway through the first period. This was Hughes' second helper in 11 appearances this season, as he's struggled to generate offense after missing time early in the campaign due to a shoulder injury. The 21-year-old blueliner has added 14 shots on net, nine blocked shots and a minus-3 rating while averaging 18:31 of ice time. The Devils' blue line is pretty deep, so Hughes may remain on the third pairing while featuring on the power play.

Devils' Jake Allen: Had kitties' number all night long
Allen made 25 saves in a 6-2 win over Florida on Thursday.
He came into the game with a 2-8-0 record, 4.86 GAA and .865 save percentage against Florida, but he had the kitties' number all night long. Allen is 4-2-1 with two shutouts in seven starts overall this season (2.30 GAA and .916 save percentage). He's a consistently strong backup who should be deployed whenever he's in the blue paint.

Devils' Nico Hischier: Point-per-game pace so far
Hischier bagged three apples Thursday in a 6-2 win over Florida.
Two of the assists came on the power play. He also had three shots and one hit on the night. Hischier has four assists in his last two games after putting up a single helper over his previous five games. He has 20 points, including 10 goals, in 20 games this season, but he has gone nine games without padding that category. Hischier's best season came in 2022-23 when he fired 31 goals and put up 80 points, 256 shots and a plus-33 rating. He's well on his way to equaling that total.

Devils' Jack Hughes: Another three-point game
Hughes had three assists in a 6-2 win over the Panthers on Tuesday.
All three came with the man advantage. Hughes has 10 points (four goals, six assists) in his past five games. That includes three contests with three points each -- it's nice to see so many multi-point efforts. Overall, Hughes has 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists), including nine on the power play, and 65 shots in 20 games this season. He's in a tie for fourth overall for shots.

Devils' Stefan Noesen: Two more goals
Noesen scored twice Thursday in a 6-2 win over the Panthers.
He opened the scoring in the first when he banged in a rebound after a net-front battle. Noesen then buried a one-timer on the power play in the dying seconds of the second frame. He has 16 points, including nine goals, 35 shots and 51 hits in 20 games. Noesen's best season came in 2023-24 with 14 goals and 37 points (81 games). The 31-year-old is a fantasy revelation this season and worthy of deployment in most formats.
