Top Blues News

  • Blues' Justin Carbonneau: Collects three points in win

Carbonneau scored a goal and added two assists in QMJHL Blainville-Boisbriand's 5-0 win over Rouyn-Noranda on Thursday.

Carbonneau has five goals and four assists over eight games this month. He hasn't done it with consistency -- he has four multi-point efforts and four scoreless outings. Carbonneau has been a star for the Armada this season with 33 goals, 19 assists, 195 shots on net and a plus-12 rating over 38 appearances.

  • Blues' Jordan Kyrou: Finally ends goal drought

Kyrou scored a power-play goal on three shots in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Jets.

This was Kyrou's first goal since Dec. 1 versus the Ducks. He picked up five assists over 13 appearances in that span, though he also missed nine games due to a lower-body injury. Kyrou is supposed to be better than this, but he's arguably worn the Blues' struggles this season more than most of the team's players. He's at nine goals, 21 points, 97 shots on net and a minus-9 rating across 40 appearances. It would take an improbably large surge of scoring for him to earn a fourth straight 30-goal campaign.

  • Blues' Joel Hofer: Not great in loss

Hofer stopped 13 of 15 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Jets.

Hofer wasn't able to pick up a third straight win, as power-play goals by Josh Morrissey and Mark Scheifele in the first period ended up deciding the game. The 25-year-old Hofer didn't face much traffic in this one, though he kept it close after the early struggles. He's down to 11-10-2 with a 2.73 GAA and a .904 save percentage over 27 appearances. Hofer is well on his way to a career-high workload as he continues to hold down a slight majority of the starts over the last month. The Blues have a back-to-back up next, with a game in Dallas on Friday followed by a home matchup versus the Kings on Saturday, which should allow Hofer and Jordan Binnington to get a start each.

  • Blues' Joel Hofer: Starting in Winnipeg

Hofer will defend the road net against the Jets on Tuesday, according to Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic.

Hofer has won his last two outings while stopping 67 of the 69 shots he has faced. He has gone 11-9-2 this campaign with a 2.76 GAA and a .905 save percentage across 26 appearances. Hofer had a 24-save performance in a 1-0 shutout win over the Jets on Dec. 17. Winnipeg is tied for 20th in the league with 2.98 goals per game this season.

  • Blues' Jordan Binnington: Gets no help in loss

Binnington stopped 23 of 28 shots in Sunday's 5-0 loss to the Oilers.

The Oilers had a three-goal first period, and the Blues didn't have a response for that. Binnington has lost three straight outings, allowing 15 goals on 87 shots in those contests. Considering Joel Hofer has won his last two starts, Binnington looks to be slipping more firmly into the backup role at this stage of the campaign. Binnington has an 8-13-6 record with a 3.59 GAA and an .869 save percentage over 28 appearances. The Blues' next game is in Winnipeg on Tuesday.

  • Blues' Oskar Sundqvist: Sustains cut above ankle

Sundqvist sustained a cut above his ankle that did not damage his Achilles tendon, which forced him to exit Sunday's game versus the Oilers, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports.

Sundqvist is expected to miss some time, as the cut is deep, but a firm timeline was not provided. The good news is that it's unlikely to be a season-ending injury. Robby Fabbri or Jonatan Berggren will get a chance to play while Sundqvist is out.

  • Blues' Jordan Binnington: Facing Oilers

Binnington will defend the road net against Edmonton on Sunday, per Elise Butler of the Blues' official site.

Binnington has lost his last two outings, giving up 10 goals on 59 shots over that span. He has gone 8-12-6 this campaign with a 3.53 GAA, an .871 save percentage and one shutout through 27 appearances. Edmonton is coming off a 6-0 win over Vancouver on Saturday. The Oilers rank seventh in the league this season with 3.37 goals per game.

  • Blues' Dylan Holloway: Ready to rock

Holloway (ankle) will be activated from injured reserve ahead of his return to the lineup against Edmonton on Sunday.

Following a 15-game absence, Holloway will probably occupy a middle-six role against the Oilers on Sunday. He has provided eight goals, 17 points, 76 shots on net, 26 blocked shots and 91 hits across 33 appearances this season.

  • Blues' Nick Bjugstad: Lights lamp Friday

Bjugstad scored a goal in Friday's 3-2 shootout win over the Lightning.

Bjugstad has a goal in each of the two games he's played since returning from a month-long absence due to an upper-body injury. The 33-year-old has reclaimed a bottom-six role and should be a regular in the Blues' lineup moving forward. He's at seven points, 43 shots on net, 54 hits, 19 blocked shots and a minus-2 rating over 27 appearances this season.

  • Blues' Jake Neighbours: Tallies in win

Neighbours scored a goal and added four hits in Friday's 3-2 shootout win over the Lightning.

Neighbours is now on a three-game point streak (two goals, one assist). The winger opened the scoring at 17:03 of the first period. Prior to his recent burst of offense, Neighbours had gone eight games without a point, and consistency is likely to remain an issue on a low-scoring team. The 23-year-old has 12 goals, 20 points, 50 shots on net, 99 hits and a minus-12 rating across 36 appearances.

  • Blues' Joel Hofer: Snaps Lightning's winning streak

Hofer stopped 34 of 36 shots in Friday's 3-2 shootout win over the Lightning.

Hofer had a tall task, but he was up to the challenge even after surrendering a two-goal lead in the second period. The 25-year-old netminder gave up a pair of power-play goals in a span of 62 seconds, but he was perfect the rest of the way and through the shootout to snap the Lightning's 11-game winning streak. Hofer is up to 11-9-2 with a 2.76 GAA and a .905 save percentage over 26 appearances this season. He's won five of his last seven outings and is starting to take on a majority of the playing time over Jordan Binnington. The Blues open a three-game road trip when they visit the Oilers on Sunday.

  • Blues' Philip Broberg: Slated to play

Broberg (concussion) is expected to play versus the Lightning on Friday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.

Broberg was considered a game-time decision, but he was on the likely side of playing in this contest. He missed one game due to the injury, though he missed almost all of the Jan. 10 matchup versus Vegas when he got injured. Broberg is expected to fill a top-four role and receive power-play time.

  • Blues' Philip Broberg: Considered game-time decision

Broberg (concussion) is considered a game-time decision for Friday's matchup against the Lightning, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.

Broberg entered the concussion protocol after exiting Saturday's matchup against the Golden Knights, but he could return to action after missing just under a week. Head coach Jim Montgomery said Thursday that Broberg still needed to clear some medical hurdles before getting the green light to return to game action, and the team will monitor him in the hours leading up to Friday's puck drop. If Broberg is held out Friday, he'll likely be in the mix to suit up against Edmonton on Sunday.

  • Blues' Joel Hofer: In goal Friday

Hofer will get the starting nod at home against the Lightning on Friday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.

Hofer is coming off a 33-save shutout performance versus the Hurricanes on Tuesday and will now be making his third start in the Blues' last four contests. At this point, it seems the 25-year-old backstop has supplanted Jordan Binnington as the No. 1 option in St. Louis and will likely see the bulk of the workload moving forward.
