• Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Moves to 60-day IL

  The Blue Jays transferred Garcia (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday. The Blue Jays announced Friday that Garcia would require season-ending surgery to clean up scar tissue around his right elbow, so it was only a matter of time before he was shifted to the 60-day IL to open up a spot on the 40-man roster. The right-hander finished the 2025 campaign with a 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB over 21 innings. Garcia is owed $7.5 million for 2026 and is expected to be healthy for the start of spring training.

Garcia has dealt with an elbow issue since around the All-Star break and has had trouble getting over the hump with his injury, so the decision has been made to have surgery. It's a major blow to the Blue Jays' bullpen, as Garcia has been a key setup man. Garcia is expected to be ready for spring training.

  Garcia is scheduled to meet with Dr. Keith Meister in the coming days to receive a second opinion on his right elbow injury, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Garcia was placed on the injured list July 5 after experiencing nerve symptoms in his right elbow, and though he had been cleared to start throwing, the 35-year-old hasn't been bouncing back from his workouts as quickly as anticipated. The upcoming consultation with Dr. Meister should provide more insight into the nature of Garcia's injury as well as a treatment plan, but even if he receives good news from the meeting, the right-hander's return to the Toronto bullpen shouldn't be viewed as imminent.

• Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Still experiencing nerve symptoms

  Garcia (elbow) continues to experience ulnar nerve symptoms and is returning to Toronto on Friday to be re-evaluated, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. The right-hander was working his way back from an ankle sprain in mid-July when the nerve symptoms surfaced, and he's apparently been unable to make much progress in his recovery over the past month. Garcia was filling a high-leverage role for Toronto with three saves and six holds in 22 appearances, but his availability for the playoff push remains in question due to the lingering injury.

• Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Could start throwing next week

  Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Wednesday that Garcia (ankle/elbow) could be a week or so away from resuming a throwing program, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Though Garcia was placed on the injured list July 5 due to a left ankle sprain, the Blue Jays recently revealed that he had also been experiencing ulnar nerve symptoms in his right elbow. He received a cortisone shot last week to address the elbow issue, and the Blue Jays are still waiting for the injection to alleviate some of the discomfort before clearing him to throw. The reliever will probably require a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated, so he's unlikely to be an option for the Toronto bullpen until the second half of August.
