Nola signed a minor-league deal Sunday that includes an invitation to spring training with the Rockies, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Nola was in the Royals' organization in 2024 and spent about a week in the majors without appearing in a game. With Drew Romo and Jacob Stallings in the mix, it's unlikely that Nola will play a significant role for the Rockies in 2025.

The Royals outrighted Nola to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. Nola cleared waivers after being removed from the 40-man roster and will remain in the organization as catching depth. The 34-year-old has spent all of 2024 at Omaha, slashing just .158/.247/.301 line in 46 games.

The Royals designated Nola for assignment Saturday, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports. Kansas City acquired outfielders Tommy Pham and Robbie Grossman via waivers, and Nola was one of the 40-man casualties along with infielder CJ Alexander. Nola surprised many with his initial success with the Mariners in 2019, but he's struggled to carve out consistent playing time in the majors in the season since. The 34-year-old has posted an ugly .158/.247/.301 line in 46 games with Triple-A Omaha in 2024.

The Royals optioned Nola to Triple-A Omaha on Friday. The 34-year-old was called up by Kansas City last weekend but will lose his place on the 26-man roster as Hunter Renfroe (toe) returns from the injured list. Nola didn't see game action while up with the Royals.

The Royals recalled Nola from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday. With Salvador Perez battling a knee injury, Nola will join the big-league roster to provide catching depth behind Freddy Fermin. While it's unclear how long Perez will be sidelined, Nola should be in the mix to make his 2024 MLB debut in the coming days.
