  Marquez threw two scoreless innings in his Cactus League debut Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. Marquez also struck out two and walked two. Most importantly, he threw 32 pitches and came away with no injury concerns, a significant development after he was limited to only one start in 2024 while recovering from an elbow injury. Marquez figures to lead the Rockies' rotation in 2025.

  Rockies manager Bud Black said Thursday that Marquez (elbow) is back to full health for spring training, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. After completing his recovery from his May 2023 Tommy John surgery, Marquez was cleared to make his 2024 debut for the Rockies on July 14, but he made just one start before going back on the shelf after developing a stress reaction in his surgically repaired elbow. Fortunately for Marquez, he didn't require another procedure and was able to move past the elbow issue through extended rest and rehab. The 29-year-old should be in the mix for the Rockies' Opening Day start, though that will hinge on him remaining healthy throughout the spring.

  Marquez (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday. Marquez has already been ruled out for the rest of the 2024 season, but Friday's transaction will open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Luis Peralta.   Rockies manager Bud Black said Thursday that Marquez will not return from the 15-day injured list this season after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right elbow, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports. Marquez made his way back from the IL shortly before the All-Star break after completing his recovery from May 2023 Tommy John surgery but lasted just one start before experiencing a setback with his surgically repaired elbow. The good news is that Marquez isn't dealing with any UCL damage, and the expectation is that he'll be ready to resume throwing in 6-to-8 weeks and have a normal offseason. Marquez is set to earn $10 million in 2025 in his final year under contract.

• Rockies' German Marquez: Continuing to ramp up

  Marquez (elbow) will throw a bullpen session this weekend and will then be either activated or sent on a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports. Marquez threw a 34-pitch bullpen session Thursday and mixed in his entire repertoire. He'll likely engage in a similar workout over the weekend and looks to be on track to be back at some point in early-to-mid August.
