• Nationals' Stone Garrett: Activated and optioned

  The Nationals activated Garrett (ankle) from the 10-day injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Garrett had just had his rehab assignment moved from Double-A Harrisburg to Rochester, and the Nats have elected to keep him there for a while longer. Coming back from reconstructive surgery on his left ankle, Garrett has gone 7-for-31 with a 9:7 K:BB over 40 plate appearances so far on his rehab assignment. The 28-year-old should be back with the Nationals soon enough, particularly with Lane Thomas (knee) out indefinitely, but the club wants Garrett to get back into a rhythm in the minors first.

  Garrett (ankle) went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts Wednesday in his first rehab game for Triple-A Rochester. Garrett shifted his rehab assignment to Rochester after going 7-for-26 (.269 average) with seven walks, two RBI, two runs and one stolen base over his eight-game stint with Double-A Harrisburg. The 28-year-old made six of his eight starts with Harrisburg in left field, so he should be an option for the Nationals at DH or in the corner outfield when he ultimately returns from the 10-day injured list. Garrett produced an .800 OPS over 268 plate appearances with Washington in 2023 before undergoing season-ending reconstructive surgery on his left ankle last August.

  Garrett (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Harrisburg on Saturday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Garrett has been on the injured list all season after undergoing left ankle reconstruction surgery in August, and it appears he's now ready to test his ankle in a competitive setting. It's unclear how long he will remain in the minors, but the 28-year-old outfielder figures to operate on the short side of a platoon once he returns to the Nationals.

  The Nationals placed Garrett (ankle) on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. As expected, Garrett won't be available to begin the season while he continues his recovery from the left ankle reconstruction surgery he underwent last August. According to MLB.com, Garrett is expected to stick around at the Nationals' facility in Florida to participate in extended spring training games, and he could then head out on a minor-league rehab assignment thereafter. Once he's deemed ready for his 2024 debut, Garrett will likely serve as a short-side platoon player in the corner outfield or at designated hitter.

  Garrett (lower leg) will play in a simulated game Monday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. It will be the first time Garrett has played in a game setting since he needed surgery last August on his left fibula and ankle. The Nationals are still holding out hope that the 28-year-old can be ready for Opening Day, but it's going to be close. Garrett is slated to see lots of action at designated hitter and also the outfield for the Nats this season.
