Wicks' long-relief performance ensured the Cubs' bullpen would be well-rested heading into the wild-card round. Wicks has kept runs off the board in three of his last four outings dating back to Aug. 26, though his struggles in limited action earlier in the year led to him finishing the regular season with a 6.28 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB over 14.1 innings across eight relief appearances. It's unclear if he'll earn a spot on the Cubs' wild-card roster.

The Cubs optioned Wicks to the Arizona Complex League on Wednesday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. After posting a 7.94 ERA and 1.94 WHIP across 11.1 innings with the big club this season, Wicks will head down to the Cubs' facility in Arizona to stay sharp now that the minor-league season is over. His departure clears room on the active roster for Daniel Palencia's (shoulder) return from the injured list.

Wicks was recalled from Triple-A Iowa prior to Saturday's game against the Reds. Wicks will return as left-handed bullpen depth after compiling a 3.55 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 77 strikeouts in 71 innings operating as a starter who typically pitches fewer than five innings. He has an 8.71 ERA and 2.03 WHIP in 10.1 innings in the majors this year.

The Cubs optioned Wicks to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. The left-hander was called up by Chicago last weekend and made two appearances, giving up one run across two innings. Wicks could rejoin the big club for the closing stretch of the regular season but will return to Triple-A for now.

The Cubs recalled Wicks from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Wicks served as the 27th man in Wednesday's doubleheader before being returned to Iowa. Just a couple of days later, he'll join the 26-man roster in place of Javier Assad. Wicks should work out of the bullpen, a role in which he's struggled during 2025 while compiling a 9.72 ERA across 8.1 innings with Chicago.
