Biggio agreed to a minor-league contract with the Angels on Wednesday, Jack Janes of TheSportingTribune.com reports. The Royals cut Biggio loose last week after he turned in a .174/.296/.246 slash line across 37 games with the big club. He turned in a .839 OPS at the Triple-A level, however, which will buy him a new opportunity in the Angels' farm system. If the 30-year-old utility man continues to hit well upon reporting to Triple-A Salt Lake, he may be granted a few at-bats with the Halos down the stretch.

The Royals designated Biggio for assignment Friday. Kansas City needed to open a 40-man roster spot for the return of Hunter Harvey (shoulder) from the 60-day IL. Biggio hasn't been in the majors since he was sent to Triple-A on May 25 after slashing .174/.296/.246 with one home run, four RBI, nine runs scored, one stolen base and an 11:21 BB:K across 83 trips to the dish. He's been swinging the bat better at Triple-A Omaha, slashing .285/.375/.464 with four home runs, 23 RBI, 26 runs scored, one steal and a 20:37 BB:K over 176 plate appearances.

The Royals optioned Biggio to Triple-A Omaha following Sunday's 2-1 win over the Twins, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. Biggio appeared as a pinch hitter in the contest, striking out in place of Mark Canha in the top of the ninth inning. The 30-year-old has struggled to a .174 average with one home run, four RBI, nine runs scored and a stolen base over 83 plate appearances in 37 games with Kansas City this season. Since he's accrued more than five seasons of service time, Biggio will now have the chance to either accept his option to Triple-A or elect free agency.
