The Brewers signed Merryweather to a minor-league contract Friday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Merryweather began the season with the Cubs before being released in late May. The righty reliever then landed with the Mets on a minor-league deal, but he opted out of his contract in early August without having made an appearance in the big leagues. Merryweather will begin his Milwaukee tenure with Triple-A Nashville.

Merryweather signed a minor-league deal with the Mets on Saturday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Merryweather was let go by the Cubs on May 30 and will now have a new opportunity. He struggled across 21 games in Chicago this year, logging a 5.79 ERA and 1.82 WHIP, but he could find his way into the Mets' bullpen.

The Cubs released Merryweather on Friday. Merryweather was DFA'd by Chicago on Saturday, and after passing through waivers unclaimed, the 33-year-old will now have to look elsewhere for his next opportunity. He owns a 5.79 ERA and 1.82 WHIP through 18.2 big-league innings this year, so he'll likely have better luck signing with another organization if he settles for a minor-league contract.

Merryweather (0-1) gave up two runs (one earned) while retiring two batters to take the loss Sunday against the Phillies. He allowed one hit and three walks. Merryweather's control eluded him as he took his first loss of the season in the 3-1, 10-inning defeat. Despite the hiccup, the righty has mostly pitched well for the Cubs, registering a 2.45 ERA and 10 strikeouts across 11 frames. Merryweather struggled with injuries last year as he posted a disappointing 6.60 ERA in 15 innings of work, but he looks healthier and more effective in 2025. His control remains a concern, however, as he now has a 4.9 BB/9, which could lead to some rough outings down the road.

Merryweather (knee) pitched a scoreless inning of relief in Saturday's Cactus League game against the White Sox. He allowed a hit and a walk. Merryweather missed the majority of last season due to rib and knee injuries and ended up making only 15 appearances for the Cubs, with his last one coming on Aug. 25. While he likely won't be in the mix for saves in 2025 with Ryan Pressly and Porter Hodge around, it's encouraging just to see Merryweather back on the mound. He figures to work in middle relief and likely won't have a ton of fantasy appeal in most formats.
