The Padres optioned Cosgrove to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday. Cosgrove came up from the minors Wednesday as a roster replacement for Martin Perez (paternity), and he'll head back to Triple-A now that Perez has returned. The 28-year-old Cosgrove didn't appear in a game during his three-day stint in the big leagues.

The Padres recalled Cosgrove from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. Cosgrove has allowed 19 earned runs over just 14.2 innings in the majors this season, but he'll return to San Diego nonetheless to give the Friars a left-handed bullpen arm while fellow southpaw Martin Perez is on paternity leave. The 28-year-old Cosgrove will almost certainly be limited to low-leverage situations while in the big leagues.

The Padres are expected to recall Cosgrove from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Cosgrove is expected to provide coverage for the Padres bullpen while Wandy Peralta (thigh) and Stephen Kolek (forearm) continue to work through their respective injuries. Cosgrove has an 11.66 ERA and 1.98 WHIP across 14.2 major-league innings this season.

The Padres activated Cosgrove (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso. Cosgrove missed nearly a month of action with left elbow inflammation but has been cleared to pitch in games again. The southpaw has battled through a dreadful 2024 campaign which has seen him cough up 19 runs over 14.2 innings during his time with the Padres.

Cosgrove was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday due to left elbow inflammation, retroactive to Thursday. The Padres recalled Cosgrove from Triple-A on June 21, and he appeared in three games with San Diego. His most recent outing came Wednesday, when he yielded four runs and retired only one batter before being pulled. Austin Davis will take Cosgrove's place on the active roster.
