  • The Astros selected Munoz with the eighth pick of the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday. Munoz, 25, actually has plenty of MLB experience, unlike most Rule 5 picks. The hard-throwing righty logged 83.2 innings in the majors for Miami in 2024 before spending 2025 in the Cardinals organization, working primarily as a reliever at Triple-A. Munoz had a 3.28 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 76:30 K:BB in 57.2 innings last season at Triple-A.

The Reds did not tender Munoz a contract for 2026 on Friday, making him a free agent. The right-hander was claimed off waivers by the Reds in early November, but the organization won't retain him through Friday's non-tender deadline. Munoz pitched in eight games for the Cardinals last year and had an 8.18 ERA and 14:9 K:BB over 11 innings.

The Reds claimed Munoz off waivers from the Cardinals on Thursday. Munoz gave up 10 earned runs in 11 innings with the Cardinals in 2025 but finished the minor-league season with a 3.28 ERA and 1.33 WHIP through 57.2 frames at Memphis. The Reds, evidently intrigued by his Triple-A statline, will now bring the 25-year-old in to add depth to their pitching staff, but because he has no more options remaining, Munoz will need to make the Opening Day roster in order to stay on the 40-man roster.

The Cardinals optioned Munoz to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Munoz will lose his place on the active roster after giving up three earned runs on two hits and three walks over 1.1 innings of relief in Saturday's 12-8 loss to the Yankees. Anthony Veneziano was called up from Triple-A to round out St. Louis' bullpen.

  • The Cardinals recalled Munoz from Triple-A Memphis on Friday. Munoz, Andre Granillo and Ryan Fernandez will all join the Cardinals' bullpen following the departures of Ryan Helsley, Phil Maton and Steven Matz. The 25-year-old Munoz has struggled quite a bit in the majors, posting a 6.65 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across 89.1 career innings between Miami and St. Louis.
