  • Warren (0-3) took the loss against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over four innings. Warren yielded four runs in the third inning, including a three-run home run to Brendan Donovan. The rookie generated just five whiffs on 76 pitches and has now surrendered four earned runs or more in four of his five starts with the Yankees. He owns a 9.55 ERA and 1.85 WHIP through 21.2 major-league innings and will likely cede his spot in the rotation upon the return of Luis Gil (back) or Clarke Schmidt (lat).

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Starting Saturday
    By RotoWire

Warren will start Saturday's game against the Rockies at Yankee Stadium, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. Warren was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday to take Luis Gil's (back) spot on the active roster, and he'll now slot into Gil's spot in the rotation this weekend. In three big-league starts this season, Warren has an 8.59 ERA with a 17:5 K:BB, though those numbers are skewed heavily by an eight-run start against the Angels on Aug. 7.

  • The Yankees optioned Warren to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports. Warren turned in a solid spot start in Wednesday's 10-2 win over the White Sox, taking a no-decision while allowing two runs over five frames. He'll rejoin the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rotation and would likely be the first hurler called upon when/if the Yankees need another starter.

  • Warren allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out five without walking a batter over five innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox on Wednesday. Warren exited with the Yankees down 2-1, but they rallied for nine runs between the seventh and eighth innings. This was the best of Warren's three appearances in the majors this season. He's allowed 14 runs over 14.2 innings while posting a 17:5 K:BB. The 25-year-old is expected to be sent back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the near future since this was likely just a spot start to build in some rest for the Yankees' other starters.

  • Warren will be recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports. Although Warren was lit up for eight earned runs in just 4.1 innings during his second MLB start against the Angels last Wednesday before being returned to Triple-A, the Yankees will turn to him again to get them through the series finale. In addition to his poor big-league performance, the 25-year-old righty owns a 6.11 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through 95.2 innings in Triple-A. He will have the benefit of facing the worst offense in the majors, but he is still not a recommended streaming option. The Yankees are likely to send Warren back to Triple-A following Wednesday's contest.
