  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Re-ups with San Diego
    By RotoWire

The Padres re-signed Hart to a one-year, $1 million contract with a $2.5 million club option for 2027 on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The Padres declined Hart's $5 million club option for 2026 earlier this month, but they've now brought him back at a lesser rate. Hart split his time between the majors and minors in 2025, finishing with a 5.86 ERA and 37:13 K:BB over 43 regular-season innings covering six starts and 14 relief outings with the big club. The southpaw will compete for an Opening Day roster spot -- perhaps in a swingman role -- but does have minor-league options remaining.

  • Kyle Hart: Padres decline option
    By RotoWire

The Padres declined Hart's $5 million club option for 2026 on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Hart pitched in the majors for the first time in five years in 2025, though he accumulated a 5.86 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 43 regular-season innings. His poor performance made it easy for San Diego to decline giving the 32-year-old a $4 million raise, so he'll instead receive a $500,000 buyout and look to free agency for his next opportunity.

The Padres optioned Hart to the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Sunday. Hart will cede his spot on the 28-man active roster to lefty JP Sears, who was recalled from El Paso to start Sunday's regular-season finale versus the Diamondbacks. Over 20 appearances (six starts) for the Padres on the season, Hart went 3-3 with a 5.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 37:13 K:BB in 43 innings.

  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Summoned from Triple-A
    By RotoWire

The Padres recalled Hart from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday. Right-hander David Morgan is scheduled to serve as the opening pitcher for Sunday's game in Minnesota, but Hart could be tasked with covering multiple innings behind him. Hart previously made six starts for the Padres and nine for El Paso this season, but he's worked largely in relief since the All-Star break. The southpaw hasn't covered more than three innings in any appearance in August, so the Padres could end up treating this as more of a bullpen game rather than leaning on Hart as a bulk reliever.

  • Hart is expected to be called up from Triple-A El Paso and is set to work in bulk relief behind opener David Morgan in Sunday's game against the Twins, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Hart worked as a starter early in the season while with the big club, but all three of his appearances in July came in relief. He's also been working out of the bullpen with El Paso, and he hasn't exceeded two innings in any of his past seven appearances. With that in mind, Hart may be on a pitch count of some sort Sunday.
