Pena posted hits in two of his first three at-bats while also stealing second and coming around to score a run over that stretch. It marked the shortstop's second straight two-hit performance and the fifth in his last nine games. Over that span he's batting .282 (11-for-39) with one homer, three RBI and three runs scored. The stolen base was his 17th of the season and his second this month.

Pena went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run Saturday against the Diamondbacks. Pena ended a 12-game stretch without a home run, during which he hit only .178 with five RBI and four runs scored. Despite the recent drought, Pena has seen his power production bounce back in 2024, as his ISO has jumped from .118 to .134. Overall, he's delivered a well-rounded line that includes a career-high 68 RBI and 16 steals.

A rest day Thursday was good for Pena, as he drove in a run on a double in the third inning and crushed a 418-foot solo home run in the sixth. Over his past 10 games, the shortstop has tallied four multi-hit efforts with three homers and two steals. On the season, he is hitting .277 with 13 long balls, 59 RBI, 65 runs scored and 15 stolen bases across 520 plate appearances.

Pena is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Baltimore, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. It's just the third day off all season for Pena and his first since June 21. Mauricio Dubon will handle shortstop duties for the Astros in the series opener while Pena gets some rest.

Pena went 0-for-4 with a stolen base Saturday against the White Sox. Pena saw his five-game hitting streak come to an end, but he still managed his 14th stolen base of the season to set a new career high. In contrast to 2023, he's been relatively efficient on the basepaths, going 14-for-19. That production has been just one part of Pena's strong season, as he's also maintaining a career-best .277 average across 500 plate appearances.
