The Phillies claimed Tyler off waivers from the Marlins on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The right-hander was designated for assignment by Miami on Friday, and Philadelphia scooped him up to bolster the organization's pitching depth. The Marlins designated Tyler for assignment Friday. The right-hander made his eighth outing of the season Thursday versus the Reds and gave up three runs over 4.1 innings, and it will end up being his last turn through the Marlins' rotation. Tyler posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 25:18 K:BB across 31.2 innings.

Tyler allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against Cincinnati on Thursday. Tyler struggled from the outset, giving up two runs in the first inning. He was better after that, yielding just one additional run, though he exited after 84 pitches with one out in the fourth having allowed two of the first three batters in that frame to reach base. It was the fourth straight outing in which Tyler has failed to complete five frames -- in fact, he's reached the five-inning mark just once over his first seven starts. The right-hander has posted a poor 5.40 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 25:18 K:BB across 31.2 innings in the majors this season.

Tyler allowed three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two over 2.2 innings in a no-decision versus Atlanta on Saturday. Tyler threw 40 of 73 pitches for strikes in the shaky outing, his shortest since his season debut in a relief appearance April 26. The right-hander's four walks were a season high, and he gave up a home run for the second start in a row. He's completed five innings just once this year, pitching to a 5.27 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 22:16 K:BB across 27.1 innings over seven appearances (six starts). Tyler's numbers wouldn't justify him sticking around most major-league rosters, but the Marlins have had terrible injury luck with their starters in 2024. He's tentatively projected for a home start versus the Reds in his next outing.

Tyler is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Brewers in Milwaukee. Tyler will be making his second straight turn through the rotation after he struck out five batters and gave up three runs on nine hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against the Orioles last Tuesday following his promotion from Triple-A Jacksonville. Over five outings (four starts) with Miami on the season, Tyler owns a 3.92 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 15:10 K:BB across 20.2 innings.
