Player News
  • Mize is dealing with groin tightness and a wrist injury following his early departure from Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Angels, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Mize left the game in the fourth inning after being struck in the left hand/wrist by a ground ball off the bat of Jo Adell, and he is also dealing with an apparent groin issue. The 29-year-old is expected to undergo additional testing on the groin, but Mize described his removal from Sunday's contest as precautionary. The right-handed pitcher is tentatively set to toe the rubber next at home against the Royals on Friday, and it's unclear if he's in danger of missing that outing.

  • Mize exited Sunday's start against the Angels in fourth inning after being struck in the left hand by a comebacker, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Mize entered the bottom of the fourth inning having tossed three innings of one-run ball before he took a 108.8 mph ground ball from Jo Adell off his glove hand to open the frame. The right-hander was able to finish the play, throwing out Adell at first base, but Mize was then forced to exit the game. He was already up to 74 pitches on the day, and it's possible that his removal was simply precautionary. More information on the status of Mize moving forward will likely come in the near future.

  • Mize (4-6) took the loss against the Phillies on Saturday, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings. Mize fell one out short from logging a third consecutive quality start, and he didn't get quite enough run support from his Tigers teammates to avoid the loss. He finished Saturday's outing with 15 whiffs on 97 pitches (62 strikes). The 29-year-old right-hander has given up at least three earned runs in three of his last five starts, and he enters the All-Star break with a 2.79 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 77.1 innings.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Earns fourth win
    By RotoWire

Mize (4-5) earned the win Sunday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over 6.2 innings. Mize surrendered a solo homer to Jake Burger in the third inning to open the scoring and allowed one more run in the fifth. While he didn't post the same ace-type numbers he displayed against the Yankees in his previous outing, he did a good job limiting hard contact. Since returning from the injured list, Mize has posted a 3.38 ERA with a 23:4 K:BB across 24 innings over four starts.

  • Mize (2-5) took the loss Tuesday as the Tigers fell 4-3 to the Yankees, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out six. The right-hander was nursing a 2-1 lead until running out of gas in the sixth inning, with a two-run homer by Jazz Chisholm putting New York in the lead for good. Mize was lifted after 97 pitches (65 strikes), and while he has a 9:2 K:BB in 10.1 innings over two starts since recovering from adductor inflammation, little else has been going right for him. He hasn't won a game since April 22, producing a 0-4 record over his last six big-league starts despite a 3.38 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 26:4 K:BB in 29.1 innings. Mize will try to end that winless streak in his next trip to the mound, which is set to come at home this weekend against the Astros.
