Phillips secured the save Friday against the Mets, throwing 1.1 clean innings. Phillips recorded the final out of the eighth inning to strand the bases loaded, and he ultimately came away his fourth save of the season. The right-hander has been an effective bullpen arm this year, and he'll close out the season in a committee at closer with Calvin Faucher and Lake Bachar. Through 76.2 innings, Phillips has a 2.82 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 52:23 K:BB.

The Marlins placed Phillips on the paternity list Saturday. Phillips will take at least a day (and no more than three) to be with his growing family. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster and in the bullpen, the Marlins recalled right-handed reliever Christian Roa from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Phillips will serve as an the Marlins' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Phillips made seven starts for Philadelphia in 2024, but he's been deployed exclusively as a reliever during his first season in Miami. Though he's in line for his first start of 2025 while taking on his former team, Phillips isn't expected to cover much more than an inning or two before turning the game over to the bullpen. Sunday had been Adam Mazur's turn in the rotation, so Mazur could be deployed in bulk relief behind Phillips.

Phillips earned the save in Saturday's 11-8 win over the Mets. allowing one hit and one walk while recording one strikeout in the ninth inning. With closer Calvin Faucher deployed earlier in the game, Phillips was summoned to protect a three-run lead in the ninth and did so on 15 pitches. The 27-year-old has now closed out two of his past three outings and owns a 1.96 ERA across 18.1 innings since the All-Star break. For the year, he's logged three saves and five holds alongside a 3.20 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 42:20 K:BB over 64.2 frames.

Phillips took over for Janson Junk in the sixth inning and finished the game, earning his first career save in the process. It was the 27-year-old's longest outing of the season, and his resume now interestingly includes both a save and complete-game shutout, the latter of which he recorded with the Phillies last year. He's been steady in relief for the Marlins this season, posting a 3.38 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 34:15 K:BB across 53.1 innings.
