  • Priester (3-6) pitched five innings of one-run ball to pick up the win Sunday against the Rays, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out two. Called up Sunday to make his Red Sox debut, Priester held his own to notch his third win of the season. The right-hander did not allow an extra-base hit, limiting the Rays to just four singles thanks to a robust 12:2 GB:FB. Acquired from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline, Priester struggled to a 5.40 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB in 38.1 innings (nine starts) for Triple-A Worcester. Sunday's start was a step in the right direction, but Priester likely needs more time to develop in the minor leagues before becoming a major-league asset. The 24-year-old owns an ugly 6.23 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 69:41 K:BB in 94.2 career MLB innings (15 starts).

  • Priester was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday ahead of his start against the Rays. Priester will be making his Red Sox debut, as he last pitched in the majors July 27 as a member of the Pirates before getting traded to Boston two days later for Nick Yorke. Priester gave up eight runs in his first start for Worcester, but he has a 3.75 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 36 innings over his last eight starts. He'll likely have a chance to compete for a big-league rotation spot in the spring.

  • Priester is an option to start for the Red Sox on Sunday versus the Rays, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Manager Alex Cora has ruled out Brayan Bello and Tanner Houck being used in the regular-season finale, but he didn't dismiss the possibility of Priester making his Red Sox debut. Priester has collected a 5.40 ERA and 42:12 K:BB over 38.1 innings covering nine starts with Triple-A Worcester since being acquired at the trade deadline from the Pirates.

  • Red Sox's Quinn Priester: Traded to Boston
    By RotoWire

The Red Sox acquired Priester from the Pirates on Monday in exchange for Nick Yorke, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Boston won't have room in the big-league rotation for Priester, but he'll supplement the organization's starting pitching depth. The 23-year-old right-hander hasn't shown much at the major-league level to this point, collecting a 6.46 ERA and 67:40 K:BB over 94.2 innings. However, Priester was a well-regarded prospect with a 3.50 ERA and 25.1 percent strikeout rate during his time at the Double- and Triple-A levels. He will report to Triple-A Worcester as he begins his time in the Red Sox organization.

  • Pirates' Quinn Priester: Activated from IL
    By RotoWire

The Pirates activated Priester (lat) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. Priester has been shelved since June 6 due to a right lat injury, but after making a pair of rehab starts, Pittsburgh determined he was ready to rejoin the active roster. The 24-year-old completed five innings in his latest rehab outing and could take the spot of Jared Jones (lat) in the Pirates rotation, which would put him on track to start Sunday against the White Sox. Priester holds a 4.83 ERA across 31.2 innings with the Pirates this season.
