  Priester allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out four over 2.2 innings in Tuesday's spring start against the Pirates. Priester made his third Grapefruit League start on the same day he was mentioned by manager Alex Cora as an option to fill in for Brayan Bello, whose shoulder injury may force him to the injured list for the start of the season. Priester, who worked his pitch count to 46 (30 strikes), owns a 2.70 ERA and 1.80 WHIP with a .320 BAA over 6.2 spring innings.

  Priester might open the season in Boston's rotation if Brayan Bello (shoulder) needs time on the injured list, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. It would likely be either Priester or Richard Fitts filling in for Bello, who is working his way back from a shoulder issue. Priester will make his third start this spring Tuesday after allowing one run with a 1:3 K:BB over four frames covering his first two outings. The 24-year-old was acquired from the Pirates at last year's trade deadline in the deal that sent Nick Yorke to Pittsburgh.

  Priester allowed two hits and two walks while striking out one over two scoreless innings in Thursday's spring start against the Tigers. This was Priester's second Grapefruit League start. The right-hander threw 35 pitches (20 strikes) and escaped a first-inning bases-loaded jam by inducing a double-play grounder. He's added velocity to his preferred pitch, the sinker, which averaged 93.1 mph in 2024. On Thursday, none of his seven sinkers were below 94.2 mph. With three of Boston's expected rotation arms delayed or iffy for the start of the season -- Brayan Bello (shoulder), Kutter Crawford (knee) and Lucas Giolito (elbow) -- Priester could find himself in an Opening Day starting role.

  Priester (3-6) pitched five innings of one-run ball to pick up the win Sunday against the Rays, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out two. Called up Sunday to make his Red Sox debut, Priester held his own to notch his third win of the season. The right-hander did not allow an extra-base hit, limiting the Rays to just four singles thanks to a robust 12:2 GB:FB. Acquired from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline, Priester struggled to a 5.40 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB in 38.1 innings (nine starts) for Triple-A Worcester. Sunday's start was a step in the right direction, but Priester likely needs more time to develop in the minor leagues before becoming a major-league asset. The 24-year-old owns an ugly 6.23 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 69:41 K:BB in 94.2 career MLB innings (15 starts).

  Priester was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday ahead of his start against the Rays. Priester will be making his Red Sox debut, as he last pitched in the majors July 27 as a member of the Pirates before getting traded to Boston two days later for Nick Yorke. Priester gave up eight runs in his first start for Worcester, but he has a 3.75 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 36 innings over his last eight starts. He'll likely have a chance to compete for a big-league rotation spot in the spring.
