• Rockies' Brenton Doyle: Not running in spring action

  Doyle has collected 10 hits across 34 at-bats while striking out only seven times across 11 Cactus League games. Doyle was anointed Colorado's leadoff hitter this offseason after the retirement of Charlie Blackmon, and he's occupied that position in all 11 games this spring. He's hit well, but there are a few noteworthy portions of his line, including the fact that he's taken zero walks and attempted only one stolen base. Doyle will presumably pick up his stolen base pace during the regular season, as he swiped 30 bags in 2024 with a success rate of 85.7 percent.

  Rockies manager Bud Black said Wednesday that he plans to bat Doyle leadoff next season, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. The Rockies' primary leadoff hitter in 2024, Charlie Blackmon, is now retired, and it appears Black will put Doyle at the top of the batting order in 2025 rather than Ezequiel Tovar, who made the second-most starts at leadoff last season. Doyle doesn't have strong on-base skills with a career .289 OBP (.317 in 2024), but settling in as the Rockies' leadoff hitter will nonetheless boost his runs scored outlook. Tovar seems likely to be used in the two hole.

  Doyle went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals. Doyle's long ball came on his final at-bat of the contest and trimmed St. Louis' lead to three runs. This was the outfielder's second game back after being scratched from the lineup Sept. 20 versus the Dodgers due to left knee soreness. Doyle has been one of Colorado's biggest bright spots this season, as he's slashing .262/.318/.450 with 23 homers, 72 RBI, 81 runs and 29 stolen bases with four games left on the Rockies' schedule.

  Doyle (knee) is starting in center field and batting third Tuesday versus the Cardinals. Doyle missed the entirety of the series versus the Dodgers from Friday through Sunday due to soreness in his left knee. The outfielder is ready for the series at home against the Cardinals as he retakes his center field position from Sam Hilliard, who was starting in center for him.

  Doyle was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Dodgers due to left knee soreness, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Doyle was originally slated to start in center field Friday, but he was removed from the lineup as he deals with a left knee issue. More should be known on his availability for the rest of the weekend following Friday's contest.
