  • Justin Turner 1B | CHC

Mariners' Justin Turner: Returning to bench Wednesday

Turner is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

After going 3-for-15 at the dish while starting in each of the Mariners' last four contests, Turner will head to the bench for the series finale. Three of Turner's previous four starts came against left-handed pitchers, and the Mariners are seemingly viewing him as more of a short-side platoon player at this stage of his career.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Homers in minor-league rehab game

Rizzo (forearm) went 2-for-2 with a solo home run in a rehab appearance with Double-A Somerset on Tuesday.

Rizzo began his rehab assignment Friday and has gone 2-for-6 with two walks, two strikeouts and two runs through three contests. The veteran first baseman is closing in on a return from the 60-day injured list, and he took another step toward that goal Tuesday by playing first base after serving as the designated hitter in his first two games in the minors. Rizzo could immediately reclaim his starting role at first base upon his return to the big club, as Ben Rice has batted .063 with no extra-base hits and a 28.9 percent strikeout rate over 32 at-bats in August following a promising start to his big-league tenure.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Goes deep Tuesday

Diaz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.

Diaz supplied the Rays with some insurance in the eighth, hitting a solo home run to put them ahead 3-1 in a game that wound up finishing 3-2. The home run was only his second since Aug. 3, but he's still been hitting the ball. Since Aug. 17, Diaz is slashing .351/.390/.514 with four extra-base hits, five RBI and two runs while striking out just under 10 percent of the time. His power numbers have dipped significantly since last season, but he's been able to display his usual contact ability. For the season, he's slashing .275/.330/.400 with 11 homers, 57 RBI, 46 runs and a 39:81 BB:K in 533 plate appearances.

  • Niko Kavadas 1B | LAA

Angels' Niko Kavadas: Sitting versus southpaw

Kavadas is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game at Detroit, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Kavadas started the previous five games but will hit the bench Sunday after going 1-for-17 with eight strikeouts during that span. Brandon Drury will serve as the designated hitter while Jacob Lopez starts at second base against Tigers lefty Brant Hurter.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Back in action Tuesday

Schanuel (back) is starting at first base and batting third Tuesday against the Tigers, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

The 22-year-old sat out the past two games due to a back issue, but he'll rejoin the starting nine following Monday's team off day. Schanuel has a .250/.360/.342 slash line with one homer and a 12:15 BB:K through 20 games in August.

  • Athletics' Armando Alvarez: Back with big club

The Athletics recalled Alvarez from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez has slashed .276/.323/.310 during his time with Oakland this season in his first go-round in the big leagues. The 30-year-old offers defensive versatility and should operate as a backup at multiple spots.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Multiple hits again

Casas went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays. He was 0-for-2 with a walk in the afternoon game.

The afternoon game was the resumption of a June 26 contest suspended by rain. Casas, who was on the injured list at that time, took over at first base for the departed Dominic Smith. The two hits in the nightcap gave him six multi-hit efforts in the 10 games since coming off the IL. Casas is batting .359/.419/.538 with three extra-base hits (two home runs), six RBI and six runs scored since he was activated Aug. 16.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Goes deep in Monday's win

Torkelson went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run in Monday's 6-3 win over the White Sox.

Torkelson has been in a nice groove since returning to the majors on Aug. 17. Across nine games, the 25-year-old is batting .333 with two home runs and six RBI, including the big effort on his birthday Monday. Torkelson mashed 31 home runs last season, and while he's had an up-and-down 2024 campaign, the talent and upside are still there for him to make a significant fantasy impact.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Not in Monday's lineup

Diaz is absent from the lineup for Monday's game in Seattle, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

It looks to be a routine day off for Diaz, who had started every game since July 26. Brandon Lowe will play first base and Dylan Carlson will bat leadoff for the series opener against the Mariners.

  • Ben Rice C | NYY

Yankees' Ben Rice: On bench against lefty

Rice is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

The lefty-hitting Rice will head to the bench for the second day in a row while the Yankees face lefty starting pitchers in consecutive games. DJ LeMahieu will draw the start at first base against Nationals southpaw Mitchell Parker.
