  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Goes yard in loss

Singleton went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Red Sox.

Singleton's blast helped the Astros erase a three-run deficit in the first inning. That was his lone successful moment Tuesday, as he struck out in his other three at-bats. The first baseman has gone 9-for-32 (.281) in August, but he's been losing playing time to a combination of Zach Dezenzo and Yainer Diaz over the last week. Once Alex Bregman (elbow) returns, Shay Whitcomb may also enter the mix at first base, further impacting Singleton's role. For the season, Singleton is slashing .235/.315/.371 with 11 homers, 33 RBI, 40 runs scored and seven doubles over 96 contests.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Homers early in win

Casas went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI and two walks in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Astros.

Casas has logged multiple hits in three of his five games since returning from what was nearly a four-month absence due to a cartilage tear in his ribcage. He's gone 7-for-20 (.350) since his return, with his homer Tuesday being his first extra-base hit in that span. For the year, the first baseman is at a .265/.363/.510 slash line with seven homers, 13 RBI, 16 runs scored and three doubles across 113 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Tallies four hits Tuesday

Torkelson went 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Cubs.

It's a small sample, but Torkelson is now 6-for-10 since getting recalled from Triple-A Toledo over the weekend. Encouragingly, he's also only struck out twice in three games. Making consistent contact has been an issue at times for Torkelson, but the 24-year-old has tremendous power, as evidenced by his 31 home runs last season. He could make a decent fantasy impact down the stretch if he stays locked in at the plate.

  • Niko Kavadas 1B | LAA

Angels' Niko Kavadas: Sitting versus southpaw

Kavadas isn't in the Angels' lineup for Tuesday's game versus Kansas City, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

The lefty-hitting Kavadas will take a seat Tuesday while the Royals send left-hander Cole Ragans to the mound. Brandon Drury will instead serve as Los Angeles' designated hitter, allowing Jack Lopez to start at second base and bat ninth.

  • Zach Dezenzo SS | HOU

Astros' Zach Dezenzo: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Dezenzo is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Dezenzo has a .161/.212/.290 slash line and 33.3 percent strikeout rate in his first nine big-league games and will take a seat for Tuesday's contest. Yordan Alvarez is serving as the designated hitter while Mauricio Dubon receives a start in left field.

  • Ben Rice 1B | NYY

Yankees' Ben Rice: Not facing LHP

Rice is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians.

Rice will dodge a same-hand matchup with lefty Matthew Boyd on Tuesday, giving way to DJ LeMahieu at first base. Rice has one hit in 19 at-bats during August but has almost the same number of walks (four) as strikeouts (five) and has scored four runs.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Clubs 26th homer

Guerrero went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Reds.

Getting a partial breather as the DH while batting in his usual No. 3 spot, Guerrero took Julian Aguiar deep in the first inning of the right-hander's first big-league start. The 25-year-old slugger is slashing a massive .355/.437/.742 through 16 games in August with five of his 26 homers on the year, as well as 11 runs and 11 RBI. Guerrero has already matched him home-run total from 2023 in 32 fewer games, and he's firmly on pace to record the third 30-homer campaign of his career.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Having solid August

Vaughn went 1-for-5 on Monday against the Giants.

Vaughn has struggled for most of the season but has had a solid stretch in August. Across 15 games, he's maintained a .315 average with only a 13.3 percent strikeout rate. While he has only one home run in that span, he does have seven doubles, four RBI and nine runs scored.

  • Nick Kurtz 1B | ATH

Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Making jump to Double-A

Kurtz was promoted to Double-A Midland on Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Kurtz will skip over High-A Lansing and jump directly to Midland after batting .400 with four home runs, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored over 25 at-bats on seven games with Single-A Stockton. The 21-year-old will look to continue his impressive early success at Double-A.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Back in lineup Monday

Diaz (forearm) is serving as the designated hitter and batting in the leadoff spot in Monday's series opener against Oakland.

Diaz was forced to leave Sunday's game against Arizona after being hit by a pitch on his left forearm. X-rays and an MRI after the game both came back clean, and he will end up not needing to miss any time due to injury. Since the All-Star break, Diaz is slashing .270/.329/.392 with 10 runs scored, two home runs and eight RBI across 82 plate appearances.
