  • Mark Canha LF | KC

    Tigers' Mark Canha: Idle Wednesday

Canha isn't in the Tigers' lineup Wednesday against the Twins, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Canha will get a day to regroup Wednesday after going 0-for-22 in his last six games. His absence will move Gio Urshela to first base while Matt Vierling (foot) covers third, opening up a spot in left field for Akil Baddoo.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Absent from starting nine

Singleton is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Toronto, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Singleton had started in four straight games at first base, but he'll yield to Grae Kessinger on Wednesday. Since Jose Abreu was released June 14, Singleton is batting .324 with a homer, four runs scored and four RBI.

  • Ben Rice 1B | NYY

Yankees' Ben Rice: Absent from lineup

Rice is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Reds.

With southpaw Andrew Abbott on the hill for the Reds, the Yankees are going with right-handed-hitting J.D. Davis at first base. The left-handed-hitting Rice has now started one of four games versus lefties since Davis was acquired.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Homers in second straight

Vaughn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Guardians.

Vaughn got the scoring going with a home run in the first inning, his 11th of the season and second in as many matchups. He also extended his hitting streak to five games, during which he's gone 7-for-16 with five RBI and six runs scored. The recent stretch has also brought Vaughn's OPS to .701, its highest mark at any point this season.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | BOS

Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Homers twice in win

Lowe went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Tuesday's 7-0 win over San Diego.

It was Lowe bobblehead night at Globe Life Field, and the 2023 Gold Glove winner at first base showed off his bat. He hit two-run homers in each of his first two plate appearances. Lowe's swing has found a groove of late, as he's 10-for-25 with four home runs and 12 RBI over the last six games.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Plates four in loss

Schanuel went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Athletics.

Schanuel has hit safely in seven straight games, logging multiple hits in five of them. He's also scored a run in five consecutive contests, though he'd produced just one RBI over his previous 10 games before powering the Angels' offense Tuesday. The first baseman is up to a .239/.311/.355 slash line with eight home runs, 30 RBI, 30 runs scored, eight doubles and two stolen bases over 76 contests this season, mainly playing out of the leadoff spot.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Still out Tuesday

Mountcastle (illness) isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.

An illness kept Mountcastle out of Sunday's game versus Texas, and he'll remain sidelined Tuesday as he continues to feel under the weather. Ryan O'Hearn will get the nod at first base while Heston Kjerstad serves as the DH.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Returns to Toronto lineup

Guerrero (finger) will start at first base and bat third in Tuesday's game versus the Astros.

Guerrero was removed from Sunday's game after being hit in the right hand by a pitch and didn't play Monday due to swelling in the fourth and fifth fingers on his right hand. However, he's feeling well enough to give it a go Tuesday as the Blue Jays continue their series against the Astros.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Wasn't available to pinch hit

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Guerrero (finger) wasn't available to pinch hit Monday versus the Astros after being a late scratch from the lineup, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Guerrero was initially in Monday's lineup but had to be scratched after he "wasn't comfortable squeezing the bat" pregame, per Schneider. The fourth and fifth fingers on his right hand remain swollen as a result of a hit-by-pitch in Sunday's game against the Yankees. Guerrero will attempt to swing a bat again Tuesday before it's decided whether he can return to the lineup.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Scratched from lineup

Guerrero was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros due to right fourth/fifth finger discomfort, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Guerrero was hit in the right hand by a pitch in the third inning Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Yankees and was ultimately removed from the contest in the bottom of the eighth. While he was initially slated to play Monday in the series opener versus the Astros, some lingering soreness will ultimately prevent him from doing so. X-rays on the hand returned negative, and Guerrero is considered day-to-day. Ernie Clement will enter the lineup as a replacement for Guerrero, manning third base and batting ninth.
