Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Two hits in return

Dalbec returned to the lineup and went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 9-2 win over Tampa Bay.

Dalbec opened the season 0-for-10 with five strikeouts, which resulted in two straight days off before Wednesday's game. The young prospect took some time to work on his mechanics after getting advice from fellow slugger J.D. Martinez, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. "We talked [Sunday] about his swing and his hips, and I showed it to him on the video, and it's such a big difference," Martinez said. "He's going to be working on this stuff, what we talked about. All I can do is show him what I see, and hopefully it resonates with him." The veteran's guidance appears to have helped, as Dalbec made contact in all four plate appearances and delivered a pair of singles, including one struck at 100.9 mph.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Enters game in sixth inning

Vaughn entered Wednesday's game in the sixth inning after left fielder Billy Hamilton was removed due to a hamstring injury. He went 1-for-2 in an 8-4 loss to the Mariners.

The White Sox have been hit with a spate of injuries that have thinned the corps in left field, opening up at-bats for Vaughn as an outfielder and potentially giving him position eligibility there. Adam Engel (hamstring) was already on the injured list, and he's now been joined by shortstop Tim Anderson (hamstring), which means the multi-positional Leury Garcia will be needed in the infield. And now Hamilton is sidelined, although the severity of the injury is not known.

  • Evan White 1B | LAA

Mariners' Evan White: Likely unavailable Thursday

White (quadriceps) isn't expected to play Thursday against the Twins, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

The 24-year-old suffered a left quadriceps strain Wednesday against the White Sox, and he'll likely take a seat Thursday with a scheduled off day to follow Friday. Jose Marmolejos could see time at first base in White's absence for Seattle.

  • Evan White 1B | LAA

Mariners' Evan White: Exits with quad issue

White left Wednesday's game against the White Sox with tightness in his left quadriceps, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

The extent of the injury is not yet clear. White drove in the Mariners' first run of the game on a force out in the third inning. He was replaced at first base by Jose Marmolejos before the start of the fifth inning.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rangers' Nate Lowe: Records stolen base

Lowe went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jays.

Lowe got aboard on a fielder's choice in the eighth inning and stole second, although he didn't come around to score. The first baseman is off to a productive start in 2021 with three homers, 14 RBI and four runs scored in six games. His steal Wednesday was just the second of his career, and he's yet to record more than one swiped bag per year at any level of professional baseball. Lowe's lack of speed can likely be overlooked by most fantasy managers if he can keep up his frequent contributions at the plate.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Remains sidelined Wednesday

Olson (knee) isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

Olson will sit out for a second straight contest after suffering a knee contusion recently. He underwent an MRI that revealed no structural damage and should be considered day-to-day. Mitch Moreland is starting at first base, Mark Canha is serving as the designated hitter and Seth Brown is joining the lineup in left field in Olson's absence.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Not starting Wednesday

Vaughn isn't in the starting nine for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Vaughn recorded his first extra-base hit in the majors Tuesday and went 1-for-5 with one RBI, two walks and two strikeouts while starting the past two games. Billy Hamilton will start in left field while Zack Collins serves as the designated hitter Wednesday.

  • Blue Jays' Rowdy Tellez: Retreats to bench Wednesday

Tellez isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Tellez has gone hitless with five strikeouts in 15 at-bats to begin the season, and he'll sit for the second time in the last four games. Bo Bichette will serve as the designated hitter Wednesday while Joe Panik starts at second base.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Moves up in order

Gurriel batted second and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Angels.

Gurriel is one of several Astros off to hot starts, having gone 9-for-18 with six walks over the first five games entering Tuesday's contest. That start got him promoted to second in the batting order, a spot Michael Brantley, who has been out since Sunday with a wrist injury, normally resides in. Brantley is due back for Thursday's home opener following an off-day Wednesday, so Gurriel should drop back to fifth or sixth in the order.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Hits second grand slam of season

Abreu went 1-for-4 with a grand slam and an additional RBI in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Mariners.

Abreu had been pretty quiet all night, but he came up big late in the game when he sent a moonshot over the left-field fence for a grand slam to put the game out of reach as the White Sox went up 10-3 in the eighth. It was the 2020 MVP's second grand slam in six games, as eight of his nine RBI this season have come from the long ball. Abreu is still slashing just .208/.310/.458 through 29 plate appearances since he's been relatively quiet outside of his pair of round trippers.
