  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Blue Jays' Rowdy Tellez: Sits out Sunday

Tellez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

The Rays will have a southpaw (Josh Fleming) serving as their primary pitcher for the day, so the lefty-hitting Tellez will bow out of the starting nine. Bo Bichette will get a day out of the field and serve as Toronto's designated hitter in place of Tellez.

  • Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT

Royals' Ryan O'Hearn: Draws second start

O'Hearn will serve as the Royals' designated hitter and bat fifth Sunday against the Tigers, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.

O'Hearn will be rewarded with a second start against a right-handed pitcher (Michael Fulmer) after he went yard and drew a pair of walks in his season debut Friday. The Royals will likely keep O'Hearn on the bench against left-handed pitching, but so long as he can remain productive against right-handed pitching, the 27-year-old may be able to hold down the strong side of a platoon at designated hitter.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: On RBI binge

Gurriel went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI in Saturday's 16-2 win over the Angels.

Gurriel is on an RBI spree of late, registering at least one In four straight contests and delivering eight runs during that stretch. Prior to that, he had knocked in just five over his first 16 games. Houston's been up and then down to start the season, but Gurriel has remained healthy and consistent. The 37-year-old corner infielder is slashing .338/.460/.535 through 20 games.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Subbed out for defense

Vaughn started in left field and went 1-for-2 in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Rangers.

Vaughn was replaced defensively in the seventh inning by Billy Hamilton, which could be the practice when the White Sox are involved in a close game. The move paid immediate dividends in the seventh when Hamilton's 95 mph throw cut down Willie Calhoun at the plate to preserve a 1-0 lead. Being subbed out cost Vaughn two plate appearances.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Drives in two Saturday

Olson went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a walk in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Orioles.

Olson is having a monster start in 2021, slashing .338/.413/.667 with six home runs and 17 RBI in 18 games. The Athletics' offense is on a tear right now, winning 13 games in a row and Olson leads the team in hits, home runs, RBI and OPS. The 27-year-old also holds an active nine-game hitting streak.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Mariners' Ty France: On base four times in win

France went 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored in Saturday's win over the Red Sox.

France was trouble for the Red Sox's pitchers all game, reaching base four times and hitting a pair of doubles, giving him seven on the season. He's so far been able to back up his small-sample success from last season, hitting .320/.416/.533 through 21 games.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Works out at alternate site

Voit (knee) went through defensive drills at the Yankees' alternate training site Saturday, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports.

Voit was expected to arrive at the alternate site early next week, but he's evidently shown up a few days early. It remains unclear when he'll be ready to return to game action as he works his way back from late-March knee surgery.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Retreats to bench

Mountcastle isn't starting Saturday's game against the Athletics.

Mountcastle has gone just 1-for-22 with one RBI, one walk and six strikeouts in his last seven games. Pedro Severino will serve as the designated hitter while Chance Sisco starts behind the dish.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: On base thrice out of leadoff spot

Diaz went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and a run in a loss to the Blue Jays on Friday.

Austin Meadows moved down to the No. 3 spot in the lineup in a same-handed matchup versus Steven Matz, affording Diaz his fifth start out of the top of the order versus a southpaw this season. The burly infielder is now slashing an uneven .254/.413/.305, and although the minuscule slugging percentage is largely due to the fact he's yet to leave the yard through 75 plate appearances, Diaz already matched last season's doubles tally with his third two-bagger of the season Friday.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Goes deep in win

Gurriel went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's win over the Angels.

Gurriel's two-run blast in the seventh inning tied the game up at 2-2 and helped force extra innings. The 36-year-old infielder is slashing .328/.451/.522 with three home runs and 11 RBI this season.
