Chris Carter belts two home runs
Astros designated hitter Chris Carter belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning and added a second in the ninth during a wild ballgame at Chicago Monday night. Carter now has 25 home runs on the season after his third two-HR game of the year.
Carter went 3 for 4 in the game with a walk and four RBI. He scored three times and is batting .215 on the season for the Astros. The 26-year-old slugger had gone 0 for 7 in his previous two games. He has four homers in his last 11 games and 68 RBI on the year. -

Carlos Santana's average drops in August
Indians catcher Carlos Santana hit a solo home run, walked twice and struck out twice Tuesday against the Angels. Santana has managed an RBI in three straight games and has three home runs in his last nine games.
Unfortunately, Santana is batting just .194 (13 for 67) in 18 August games, dropping his season average from .280 to .262. He has three doubles, three home runs and six RBI in August.

Chris Colabello called on to replace Joe Mauer
The Twins recalled outfielder Chris Colabello from Triple-A Rochester Tuesday, to take Joe Mauer's spot on the active roster after he was placed on the disabled list.
Colabello hit .221/.302/.372 in 29 games without the Twins before being demoted last week.

Two hits for Chris Carter
Astros outfielder Chris Carter posted his second consecutive two-hit game Saturday against Anaheim.
Carter doubled and knocked in a run in the process. Carter is still striking out like crazy in August -- 20 strikeouts in 48 at-bats over 13 games -- but he's slugging .500 with six extra-base hits, including two in the last two games.

Astros slugger Chris Carter drove in five runs Friday night in Anaheim. Carter hit a three-run shot off Joe Blanton in the ninth inning for his 23rd homer of the season.
Carter added a sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the seventh to finish with five runs driven in on the game. He now has 61 RBI on the season for Houston.
Batting fifth, Carter went 2 for 4 in the game with two strikeouts. He's batting .213 on the season. The 26-year-old has four homers and nine RBI in his last seven games. -

Twins demote Chris Colabello
The Twins have optioned first baseman/outfielder Chris Colabello to Triple-A Rochester, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. In 29 games, Colabello hit .221/.302/.372 with four home runs.

Astros designated hitter Chris Carter belted his 21st home run of the season Sunday in the ninth inning off starter Martin Perez of the Rangers. Carter ended Perez's chances at his first complete-game shutout.
Carter finished 1 for 4 in the game and has 54 RBI on the season after the solo homer. He's batting just .213 for the Astros.
The 26-year-old slugger has homered in back-to-back ballgames but has just five hits in his last 10 games.

Angels outfielder Kole Calhoun had a nice game Sunday during a 6-5 loss at Cleveland. Calhoun, batting second, went 1 for 2 with three walks in the game.
Calhoun scored a run and drove in his seventh of the season. He's batting .310 for the Angels. The 25-year-old has driven in a run in his last four starts.

Asdrubal Cabrera ejected in loss
Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was ejected in the second inning of Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Angels for arguing balls and strikes after striking out in his only at-bat.
Cabrera is just 6 for 37 in August, dropping his line to .240/.292/.398 with nine home runs, 44 RBI and seven stolen bases in 359 at-bats.

Chris Colabello continues power surge
Twins outfielder Chris Colabello homered for the second time in three games Friday, in a 7-5 win over the White Sox.
Colabello opened the game with a solo home run in the second inning. He finished 2 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout, while scoring once and driving in one run.
Colabello has hit all four of his home runs since returning from the minors in late July. In fact, all four have come in his last 11 games, and he is hitting .273 in that span, compared to just .200 for the season overall.
