  • Michael Toglia 1B | COL

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Grand slam in win

Toglia went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and two runs scored in Saturday's win over the Pirates while also drawing a walk.

Toglia reached base in each of his first two at-bats, coming around to score Colorado's second run of the game on a Jake Cave double in the fourth. The 25-year-old then added more insurance runs for the Rockies with a grand slam in the eighth as they ran away with the win at home. Toglia is now batting .300 in June with nine RBI and four runs scored, and he's now hit safely in three straight games. Saturday also marked his second two-hit performance of the campaign.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Belts 11th homer

Olson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run in a 9-2 win against Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Olson was part of a big fifth inning for Atlanta, swatting the team's third and final homer in the frame. The first baseman extended his hitting streak to nine contests, a stretch during which he is batting .361 (13-for-26) with two home runs and five RBI. Olson's 11 homers are second-most on Atlanta but are well off the pace of the 54 long balls he belted last season.

  • Joey Meneses DH | NYM

Nationals' Joey Meneses: Homers, drives in three in win

Meneses went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in a 4-0 win over the Marlins on Saturday.

Meneses opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning then hit a two-run home run in the eighth. Meneses has enjoyed a modest five-game hit streak in which he has gone 7-for-15 with a homer and six RBI. Meneses had been losing out on playing time recently but is making the most of his opportunities since Joey Gallo (hamstring) hit the injured list Wednesday. On the season, Meneses is slashing .244/.305/.332 with three home runs and 36 RBI over 243 plate appearances.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Late addition to lineup

Montero will play first base and bat cleanup Saturday against Pittsburgh, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Brenton Doyle (knee) was scratched from the lineup Saturday, and as a result Jake Cave will move to center field as Michael Toglia moves to right, opening up first base for Montero. Montero has just two hits in his last 23 at-bats and owns a .546 OPS on the year.

  • Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting against LHP

Tellez is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Colorado.

Tellez will dodge a matchup with southpaw Ty Blach on Saturday, yielding to Connor Joe at first base. After a slow start to 2024, Tellez has come to life in June, hitting .385 with three extra-base hits and seven RBI in nine games played.

  • Kris Bryant RF | COL

Rockies' Kris Bryant: Nursing internal oblique strain

Bryant revealed Saturday that he has been diagnosed with an internal oblique strain in addition to a left rib contusion, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. He's without a timetable for return from the 10-day injured list,

Initially, Bryant missed three straight games due to back soreness, but when he was placed on the 10-day IL on June 6, his injury was classified as a rib contusion. Nine days later, it's now known that Bryant is also battling an oblique strain, which further pushes back his potential timeline for a return. Charlie Blackmon has been the Rockies' preferred designated hitter since Bryant was shut down with the injury, while Jake Cave (head) and Michael Toglia have picked up more playing time in the corner outfield.

  • Giants' Trenton Brooks: Sitting versus southpaw

Brooks is not in the starting lineup against the Angels on Saturday.

Brooks will remain on the bench for a third consecutive game as the Giants face another left-hander (Patrick Sandoval) on the mound. Wilmer Flores will draw another start at first base and bat third versus Los Angeles.

  • Michael Busch 3B | CHC

Cubs' Michael Busch: Sitting out Saturday

Busch is absent from the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Right-hander Andre Pallante is starting for the Cardinals and has reverse splits, so Busch will begin this one on the bench. Cody Bellinger is handling first base and Pete Crow-Armstrong will patrol center field.

  • Joey Gallo LF | CHW

Nationals' Joey Gallo: MRI reveals significant strain

Manager Dave Martinez said Friday that Gallo's MRI revealed a "significant hamstring strain," Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Martinez didn't give a return timeline for Gallo, simply saying that the 30-year-old will be out for "a while." Joey Meneses has been acting as Washington's primary first baseman since Gallo landed on the injured list Wednesday, but it's possible the Nationals decide to add someone from their farm system or outside the organization to help split the workload.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Serving as DH on Friday

Montero is starting as the designated hitter and batting eighth for Friday's game against the Pirates.

Montero was initially slated to begin Friday's game on the bench, but he was inserted into the starting lineup after Jake Cave (undisclosed) was hit in the head by a line drive during batting practice. Montero will face off against Pirates opener Carmen Mlodzinski.
