Young is starting at first base and batting eight Friday versus the Guardians.

With Cody Bellinger back in center field, Young has now made two straight starts at first base and three straight overall. The 27-year-old has a home run and a triple in his first two contests with the big club in 2023 after posting a 1.030 OPS with 13 homers at Triple-A Iowa. The lefty-swinging Young could be the preferred option at first base versus righties for the time being, with Trey Mancini playing there against southpaws.

Gurriel did not suffer any broken bones to his face Thursday and is considered day-to-day, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Gurriel was in Thursday's lineup against Boston but was scratched after taking a groundball to the nose in pregame warmups. He seemingly avoided serious injury and could return as early as Friday, when the Marlins open a series in Atlanta.

Cooper was scratched from the lineup Thursday against the Red Sox due to an illness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Jorge Soler will slide into DH duties with Yuli Gurriel sticking at first base and Jesus Sanchez being added to the lineup in right field. Cooper can safely be considered day-to-day as the Marlins wrap up this series at Fenway Park before heading to Atlanta for a three-game weekend set.

Flores is not in the lineup Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Flores hasn't appeared in a game since returning Tuesday from an IL stint for a bruised left foot -- potentially because the Giants don't want to expose him to the turf at Rogers Centre in Toronto. LaMonte Wade is playing first base in Thursday's series finale and J.D. Davis will handle the hot corner.

Wade went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Blue Jays.

Wade did an excellent job of setting the table, but the rest of the Giants' lineup combined to go 3-for-28 with one walk. He's settled in as the primary first baseman, and he's kept his bat warm in June by hitting .324 (22-for-68) over 19 games this month. Wade still finds himself on the bench versus many southpaws, but he's posted a strong .286/.415/.462 slash line with nine home runs, 27 RBI, 40 runs scored and two stolen bases over 289 plate appearances. For his part, he's batting .262 with a .748 OPS over 51 plate appearances against lefties this year.

Goldschmidt went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and an additional RBI in Wednesday's 10-7 loss against the Astros.

Goldschmidt recorded his first three-hit game since June 2 and hit his third home run over his last nine starts. During that stretch, the reigning MVP has totaled four extra-base hits, 11 RBI and six runs. Despite some early power struggles, Goldschmidt has been the epitome of consistency this year, hitting at least .270 in each month while slashing .288/.378/.493 overall. He hasn't put himself in the 2023 MVP conversation yet, but the 35-year-old remains one of the elite offensive players in MLB.

Cooper went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Red Sox.

He took Kaleb Ort deep in the second inning to get the Marlins on the board. Cooper has hit safely in seven straight games and nine of his last 10, batting .375 (15-for-40) over that latter stretch with two of his 10 homers and nine of his 36 RBI on the season.

Santana went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Padres.

Santana got the Pittsburgh offense off to a hot start with a two-run blast in the first inning. It was his second home run in as many games, and he now has five long balls in his last 17 starts. Despite that hot stretch, Santana has only a .156 ISO across 298 plate appearances on the campaign.
