  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Swats homer in loss

Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Diamondbacks.

This was Goldschmidt's first multi-hit outing in his last five games. He took Drey Jameson deep for a solo shot in the first inning. The power isn't up to last year's standard for Goldschmidt, but he's slashing a strong .328/.449/.516 with two homers, nine RBI, 12 runs scored, six doubles and two stolen bases over 17 contests.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Sitting again Wednesday

Montero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Pirates.

Montero will sit for a second consecutive contest after making two errors in the field in Monday's loss to the Pirates. Ryan McMahon will take care of third base duties, while Alan Trejo covers second base.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Slugs sixth homer

Olson went 1-for-4 with a walk, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's win over the Padres.

The first baseman capped the scoring on the night by taking Reiss Knehr deep in the ninth inning. It's Olson's sixth homer of the year, helping to fuel a .296/.405/.648 slash line that also comes with 15 runs and 20 RBI in 18 games. It's there's a cause for concern with the 29-year-old's hot start it's his career-worst 34.5 percent strikeout rate, but it's hard to argue with the results when he is making contact.

  • Spencer Steer 1B | CIN

Reds' Spencer Steer: Still out Wednesday

Steer (knee) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Steer will remain on the bench for the third consecutive game while he manages a sore right knee/quadricep. Kevin Newman will fill in for Steer at the hot corner in the series finale.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Sitting out Tuesday

Montero is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Pirates.

The 24-year-old will take a seat after making two errors at third base in Monday's blowout loss versus Pittsburgh, and manager Bud Black said he plans to "readdress" the position defensively, per Thomas Harding of MLB.com. It remains to be seen exactly how Montero's role changes, but a move back to the minors doesn't appear out of the question. Ryan McMahon is handling the hot corner Tuesday with Alan Trejo covering second base.

  • Matt Beaty 1B | KC

Giants' Matt Beaty: Optioned to Triple-A

Beaty was optioned Tuesday to Triple-A Sacramento, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Brett Wisely is getting the call in a corresponding roster move. Beaty has gone 1-for-5 with zero walks and two strikeouts in a couple different stints with the Giants this year.

  • Spencer Steer 1B | CIN

Reds' Spencer Steer: Remains sidelined Tuesday

Steer (quad/knee) remains out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Rays.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Brewers' Luke Voit: Average on the rise

Voit went 1-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI in Monday's victory over the Mariners.

Voit recorded just two hits over his first 16 at-bats of the season, but he has picked up the pace, going 7-for-17 (.412) over the last four games he appeared in. He is still searching for the power, though, as his double Monday was his first extra-base hit of the season.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Goes deep twice in loss

Freeman went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in an 8-6 loss to the Mets on Monday.

Freeman powered Los Angeles' offense one day after striking out four times against the Cubs. The star first baseman came into the contest on an uncharacteristic cold streak, as he was batting just .143 (4-for-28) with no extra-base hits and nine strikeouts over his previous seven games. Freeman emerged in a big way with a solo home run off David Peterson in the first inning and a game-tying two-run shot off Peterson in the fifth. He's slashing .328/.416/.522 through 77 plate appearances on the campaign, though he's knocked in just six runs including Monday's outburst.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Adds three more hits

Flores went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins.

Flores has logged a pair of three-hit efforts over his last four games, and he's hit safely in five of his last six contests. The versatile infielder has enjoyed a run of playing time at first base with the Giants facing southpaws in four of their last six games. For the season, Flores is slashing .317/.364/.512 with two home runs, six RBI, seven runs scored and two doubles over 44 plate appearances.
