Marlins' Josh Bell: Heads to waivers

The Marlins will place Bell on waivers Sunday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Bell remains in the lineup at first base for Sunday's contest against the Brewers, so he'll be available to play even while he's on waivers. The Marlins may simply be gauging interest in the veteran slugger, who has posted a .239/.303/.396 slash line with 14 home runs in 103 games this season. Bell has shown signs of life at the plate recently and has hit home runs in four consecutive games and has multiple hits in five straight contests. A $16.5 million salary for this season remains a major hurdle to the 31-year-old being moved, either via trade or waivers.

  • Michael Busch 1B | CHC

    Cubs' Michael Busch: Sitting Sunday

Busch is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against Kansas City.

The lefty-hitting Busch will take a seat Sunday with the Royals sending southpaw Cole Ragans to the mound. Patrick Wisdom will start at first base and bat second.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | MIL

Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Homers in second straight game

Hoskins went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday.

Hoskins plated all three of the runs Milwaukee scored against Miami starter Max Meyer with a three-run blast in the fourth inning. It was the second straight game with a long ball for the veteran first baseman, and Saturday's homer was his sixth over his past 14 contests. The surge has pushed Hoskins to 17 home runs on the campaign, and he's now three long balls away from reaching 20 for the fifth time in his career.

  • Josh Bell 1B | ARI

Marlins' Josh Bell: Goes deep again Saturday

Bell went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, a double and a walk in a 7-3 win against the Brewers on Saturday.

Bell busted the game open for Miami with a three-run blast in the seventh inning that gave the team a four-run lead. It was the veteran slugger's fourth straight game with a long ball and his fifth consecutive contest with multiple hits. Over the latter span, Bell is batting a robust .476 (10-for-21) with four home runs and seven RBI.

  • Michael Toglia 1B | COL

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Blasts 17th home run

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and two strikeouts in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Giants.

Toglia launched his first long ball since his three-homer game July 14, and he extended his hitting streak to five games in the process. Toglia has been on a tear since the middle of June with a .884 OPS in his last 37 games. The 25-year-old's 13 homers since June 15 trail only Shohei Ohtani and Anthony Santander for the most in MLB in that span.

  • Patrick Wisdom 1B | CHC

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Turns tide with grand slam

Wisdom hit a grand slam in his only at-bat in Saturday's 9-4 win against the Royals.

Chicago trailed by one run in the seventh inning before loading the bases with one out. Wisdom was brought in to pinch hit for Pete Crow-Armstrong and promptly belted a grand slam to turn the deficit into a lead. The slugger continues to receive limited opportunities, as he's played in just seven games in July and started only two of those. However, he has been impactful of late, collecting two homers and five RBI over his past five at-bats.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | SF

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Sitting out nightcap

Wade is out of the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rockies.

Wade played first base during the matinee and went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. He'll get Game 2 off as David Villar plays first base and bats eighth.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | PIT

    Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting Saturday

Tellez (back) is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Tellez was lifted from Friday's game due to back spasms and will take the night off Saturday to recover. He's being labeled as day-to-day. Connor Joe will bat cleanup and play first base Saturday.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Heads to family emergency list

The Dodgers placed Freeman (personal) on the family emergency list Saturday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

By rule, Freeman will miss between three and seven days, making Tuesday's series opener against the Padres his next opportunity to return to the Dodgers lineup. Cavan Biggio should see most of the work at first base while Freeman is away from the team. Catcher Hunter Feduccia was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma in a corresponding move.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Homers in extra-inning loss

Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 10-8 extra-inning loss to the Nationals.

Goldschmidt tried to spark a comeback for the Cardinals after they fell behind in the top of the 10th inning, but his homer was the team's last scoring play of the day. The first baseman has homered twice and added two doubles over his last five contests, though he's also struck out seven times in that span. On the year, he's at a .229/.288/.382 slash line through 99 games while adding 15 homers, 40 RBI, 49 runs scored, 16 doubles and six stolen bases. He's been a bit better in July, slashing .244/.262/.463 over 19 games this month.
