  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Not starting Thursday

Cron isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Cron has gone 1-for-16 with a double, a walk and seven strikeouts in his last five appearances, and he'll be out of the lineup Thursday for the second time in the last three games. Joshua Fuentes will shift to first base and bat seventh.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Homers, swipes bag

Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-2 win over Cleveland.

Goldschmidt had his first combo meal of the season Wednesday, with a home run off Trevor Stephan in the seventh inning and a stolen base in the fifth inning. The 33-year-old is slashing .251/.320/.416 with eight homers, 30 RBI, 34 runs and four steals in 256 plate appearances.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

    Phillies' Alec Bohm: Sitting Thursday

Bohm will sit Thursday against Atlanta.

Bohm has stumbled significantly in his sophomore season after a strong rookie campaign, as he's hitting just .216/.260/.305 with four homers in 59 games. The Phillies are letting him work through those struggles on the field, however, as he sits Thursday for just the fifth time all season. Luke Williams starts at third base in his absence.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Socks two-run shot

Alonso went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three total RBI and three total runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Orioles.

Alonso launched his 10th homer of the season during the first inning, and his two-run blast off former Mets ace Matt Harvey set the tone for the rest of the game for New York. The slugging first baseman also extended his hitting streak to five games and has recorded back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time in 2021. He's hitting .265 with 10 home runs, 31 RBI and an. 850 OPS on the season.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Shut down with lumbar strain

The Marlins placed Cooper on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a lumbar strain, David Wilson of the Miami Herald reports.

Miami will bring up Lewin Diaz from Triple-A Jacksonville to fill Cooper's role as a reserve first baseman behind Jesus Aguilar. Cooper had been battling back stiffness heading into the weekend before joining the lineup Monday in Boston, so he may have suffered a related setback in that contest. He'll be eligible to return from the IL on June 18.

  • P.J. Higgins 1B | CIN

Cubs' P.J. Higgins: Draws start in series finale

Higgins will start at catcher and bat eighth Wednesday against the Padres.

Higgins will enter the lineup for only the fifth time since his May 19 call-up from Triple-A Iowa. The 28-year-old is off to a 1-for-21 start to his big-league career, and his playing time will likely remain scarce so long as top catcher Willson Contreras is healthy.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Pair of walks in return

Votto (thumb), activated from the injured list earlier in the day, went 0-for-2 with two walks in a loss to the Brewers on Tuesday.

The veteran first baseman saw his first game action since May 5 and displayed his trademark patience at the plate. Votto operated out of the cleanup spot for the seventh time this season, and it remains to be seen if he'll begin to log more time in a premium slotting that will often place him behind Nick Castellanos and ahead of Eugenio Suarez. Votto will also look to rediscover the momentum he seemed to be generating before his injury, as he'd slashed an impressive .273/.385/.545 across the 26 plate appearances covering his last seven games leading into his month-plus absence.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Launches two homers

Alonso went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI during Tuesday's 10-3 loss at Baltimore.

The 26-year-old clubbed a two-run shot during the first inning and also hit a solo homer during the ninth, but the rest of the New York's offense mustered only two singles on the day. Alonso is 10-for-30 with three homers, nine RBI and six runs across his past eight contests.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Lofts homer, four RBI

Rizzo went 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two runs and four RBI in Tuesday's 7-1 triumph over the Padres.

Rizzo laced a two-run double as part of a four-run sixth and later launched a two-run home run the next inning to extend the lead to 7-0. The long ball was a welcome sight as it was only the veteran first baseman's sixth all season and his first since May 2. While Rizzo's on base and average are near his career rates, a .445 slugging is well below a career .483.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Three singles in win

Wade went 3-for-5 in Tuesday's 9-4 win over Texas.

All three of his hits were singles. Wade hit safely in seven of nine games while Brandon Belt was out with an oblique injury. Now that Belt is back, Wade is likely to play in the outfield mostly -- he started in right field Tuesday. The 27-year-old is slashing .310/.408/.548 with three home runs, five RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base across 49 plate appearances. He'll compete for extra time in the outfield while Mike Yastrzemski (thumb) is out.
